I prefer flat athletic laces over round dress laces simply because of knot-holding ability. I try to 'dress-up' my shoes a bit, so I'll try to find some sort of color (other than the usual Black/Brown/White).

BTW, these are NOT my cycling shoes, but I have the same ones... And therefore NOT my laces..

BUT, I'll put contrasting laces in brand-new shoes because I don't like laces that won't hold a knot! I have gray laces in one pair of white sneaks, dark blue in another...
Amazon or eBay can still be your friend for this weird stuff...

My Giro Republics came with two different color sets of laces.
My only disappointment is that I can't use the phat laces from the 80's Pumas. (And I have Puma touring shoes.)
Chagrin.

I've been making an extra pass with the loop and end (not a double knot, but much more friction, don't know what it's called) for so long the type of lace makes no difference.

Maybe you are tying them wrong then?

I used to walk for a living (carrying mail ~ 7-9 miles/day) and I liked my shoes to stay tied tightly. Some styles of laces just don't like to stay tied, and I was not a fan of double-knotting those types that refused to stay tied. Round dress laces, and oval laces - nope. I can't tell you how many times that I've bought a new pair of shoes and changed the laces before I'd even wear them!

He's basically telling us we have been tying granny knots all these years (decades)?

Once you get you laces, Skip, then you can go to Ian's for all the cool ways you can tie them.

This is a great resource. Thanks Fasthair. I love esoteric stuff like this. You never know when you're going to need some custom shoelaces.

Also see Ian's secure shoelace knot. (I can't post links yet).
I've been using it for years and it really works, and it's easy to untie. Works great with paracord.
