Pedal Size Question
Are 1/2 and 9/16 the only options for pedal sizes?
My daughter and I found a project bike. It's a cheap kids bike but a fun project none the less.
It needs new pedals. They threads are noticeably smaller than my 9/16 pedals. Is 1/2 the only other option? So am I safe to buy a set of 1/2 pedals on Amazon? Or are there random oddball sizes floating around for cheap cranks?
It's a cheapie Toys R Us bike. But it's plenty good enough as a project to teach my daughter how to rebuild one.

1/2" and 9/16" are the two common sizes. There was an old French threading but it is no longer manufactured. The 1/2" size is usually used on 1-piece "Ashtabula" cranksets: https://www.sheldonbrown.com/opc.html

Some really low cost tiny kids bikes have cranks with no threads. The pedal spindles extend through the arm and receive a nut to secure them. Haven't seen new bikes with these cranks/pedals for a long time though.
Remember that pedal spindles are generally harder then the crank arm is so any screw up in installing can result in the more hassle prone crank arm being damaged. Andy
