No. You have to coast sometimes. The bike I'm riding doesn't have enough gear, even in the big chain ring, to go down some of the hills I am faced with. There's also nothing wrong with coasting for a few seconds to catch a breath. It enables you to pedal further than you would have if you didn't take a short brake. Coast easy my friend 
It just kinda feels like cheating, compared to stuff like running. Sometimes I keep the brakes on just to keep spinning, when I go faster than the gears.Anyway, 23 more miles today for a total of 270!

The thing about coasting is... are you using your bike to get exercise or are you using it to ride bikes? I coast, just like I would coast as a teenager. Sometimes I ride fast, sometimes I ride slow, for me it's all about the experience of riding a bike, so whatever I do on the bike is cool.

I guess I'm officially part of this club now. I'm sitting at 323 after my ride yesterday morning. Going to attempt to get to 500. Not sure if it will happen though...

After tonight's commute home I'll be sitting at 260 for the month. Not sure I'll get in any rides this weekend but I have about 150 commuting miles left for the month, so should get to around 400 for the month anyway...

I biked 32.5 miles and over 4000' vert today for a total of 303 miles! I'm going for 500; shouldn't be hard -- only 16.5 miles each day here on out.

Rode a 75mile lap around Lake Murray SC to make it 425miles for the month of June.

I'd like to promote myself from the 150-mile/month "club" to the 300-mile/month "club". By virtue of a century, I easily achieved the 150-mile mark, and with 1/3 of the month to go, I'm shooting for 300. Here are my results, (all uploaded to Garmin Connect), for June; so far:

Made it out for a 16 miler yesterday afternoon, so I'm up to about 275 miles now. Close to 150 commute miles left for the month too. Given my commute distance I should hit 400 for the month even if I don't get any non-commute miles in.

last ride: An after-work aerobic run. Turning 60 this summer, and with a family history of heart disease, I'm trying to keep the ticker in decent shape. Nice hi-speed run out, then fought the wind, fatigue, and a hint of cramping if I were to push it too much on the way back. Even with the wind, the "average moving speed" was 16.5 mph. I'm satisfied with that.
