This morning I figured I should just forget the SuperSix so I had to force myself to get to the bike shop. "But you have to check out the frame" I encouraged myself.
Got to the LBS, had the 23mm tires pumped to 120psi, signed the forms and off I went. DAMN this bike rides soooo smooth. Unbelievable! So unbelievable in fact that after a few minutes I took the bike back to the store and enquired if the tires really were pumped to 120psi (they were), but I had them re-pumped in front of me this time and I headed out again. Sure enough the ride was still smooth. So I done the next logical thing and got off the bike to see if they really were 23mm tires (they were). Was this what gatorskins had done to me over the years with their harsh ride? Perhaps the tires on this bike are smoother rolling than on my Allez, or was it really the frame doing it's job? I'm convinced it's (mainly) the latter.
I continued the test ride, I didn't have cycling shoes on thus couldn't check the power delivery so I just concentrated on overall handling and ride quality. Ah the ride quality. Wow. Amazing. I had no idea bikes can ride this well. I rode routes that I know well; whereas my Allez (with 25mm folding gatorkskins at 100psi) gave a shaky ride, the S6 just smoothed over any jitters in the road. Now I know what you guys mean by low road vibration. I didn't believe you guys at first, but now I get it. I have seen (felt?) the light.
Went on some more roads, including cobbles like the ones in the Roubaix race. My Allez would shake rattle and roll along the cobbles and of course I wont say the S6 didn't shake, it did, but it seemed somehow subdued. Not comfortable of course, they are cobbles after all, but calmer.
Then I tested slow speed cornering which was fine, probably a combination of tires, fork, and frame doing their respective jobs well. I cant recall if Mavic Aksion or Schwalbe Lugano were installed, but I dont think I'll upgrade the tires straight away. I was thinking of getting 25mm tires but if this bike is more comfortable with 23mm@120psi than 25mm@100psi, then I'll wear these ones out before switching.
Talking of components, I was pleasantly surprised with the brakes. The tech specs show Tektro R580 but my bike is fitted with Shimano 105. So with the exception of hubs and bb, looks like I have full 105.
I felt the brakes had a teeny bit of friction in them and I think that's due to the 105 cables being under the bar-tape. Maybe when upgrading the wheels/pedals, I might get a new bar with a cable groove, and while I'm at it, perhaps a new saddle. It's funny how the bike I will ride the least, is the bike I want to look the nicest, and the bike I'll spend most money on.
I left the bike with a holding deposit and the LBS said they'll do an eye-ball fit, which is fine by me. I hope it's not icey tomorrow.

haha welcome to the dark side. Those cheap shimano that come with the super6-five roll pretty well other then their weight. The bike is more lively w/ lighter wheels.

Oh come one! you cant possibly wait till the weekend to get some better pictures! If you aren't riding it, you should be wiping it down with a towel then standing back from it with admiration! one of those times, have a camera in hand and take a photo and share!!!

congrats again on the bike.
take and share some more picts when you take off the dork disc and reflectors in the wheels and on seat post. Dont cross chain (large ring in front, large rings in back).
Do you have any plans for the bike or are you going to ride it as is? (Please dont take that the wrong way. not trying to say that riding it stock is a bad thing)

I wanted to take the standard bf etiquette photo but I didn't like the background of my photos so figured meh whatever. Ah yes, excuse the dorky disk and reflectors. I asked the LBS to remove those but they didn't. I'm not going to ride it much until the weather improves and will get some shots with nicer backgrounds but that won't be for a while. Oh yeah, not sure if you noticed the dorky bell but that'll go too.
Upgrades: yup, wheels. Dont know much about wheels but I like the looks of Dura Ace RS80 C50 in white/black + dash of red. No plans to upgrade anything else but might get 25mm GP4000S. Maybe new skewers, we'll see. And perhaps a bike fit; quite ironic since I'll continue to ride the Allez more often.
