I work in branding and advertising and really like using my own photographs on projects. This ad wasn't actually used but It's the only shot I've got in a long time that I can say i'm proud of at all.

Yeah, I know how crop factors work, thanks. I say that because you're not getting everything that you're paying so much for - it's not easy to build a sharp, wide *and* fast, and the price tags reflect that. Lenses like the 24L and the 35L (and Siggy 35/1.4) are beasts of a completely different nature on a FF camera vs a crop - there is no crop equivalent.
You pretty much just explained why I like FF glass on my crop camera. It's not easy to make a fast/wide/sharp lens and even the super expensive ones are still a little soft at the edges. So on my crop sensor, I 'crop' the soft edges and only get the sharp center.
Plus, why on earth would I buy EF-S lenses when I might buy a FF body someday. Then I'd have a ton of useless glass.
I bought the 7D because at the time it was a "Pro" crop body. I shoot mostly action with only a tiny bit of portraiture. So fps was more important than sensor size. Given this is a hobby, I wasn't going to shell out the cash for a 1D series when I could get everything I wanted/needed in the 7D. The high ISO performance wasn't as great as the 5D2, but it blew everything else away at the time, including the 1D3.

I got what you're saying. You think my 7D isn't worthy of the glass I own because the crop sensor isn't using all of the image circle. Instead of buying nice glass, I should buy kit-lens quality EF-S lenses. Yup, got it.

"Wide and fast on a FF" - Wide = I'm not talking about the size of the image circle per se, but about the FoV. Fast = I'm not referring to the light transmission as it affects exposure, but about selective focus/separation/isolation. Lenses like the 35L and 24L are very particular lenses made so that you can take advantage of FoVs that are wide enough to give you a really good understanding of the environment while still giving you the ability to use selective focus to tell your viewer where you want their attention to be. Putting these lenses on a crop sensor diminishes this very unique combination of factors significantly - ie, you're not getting all that you're paying for.

I've already said it before, but I guess I'll have to spell it out.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming....

I knew what you meant by 'wide', thanks. You're focusing (hah!) on one aspect of these lenses and ignoring the other things that make them great for a crop camera. You're right that I'll never get that one great value out of these lenses on my 7D, but it doesn't mean that I'm not getting another great value in that of a roughly 50mm equivalent, high quality image. I'm sorry you don't think this is a worthy use of these lenses. Good thing it isn't your money.

And thanks for saying what you really wanted to say all along. You have a better camera than me, which means I shouldn't be thinking about buying glass that only your camera can benefit the best from. I guess I'll just have to play with my pedestrian gear, how I see fit, without your approval.

There is no other lens I can buy to get close to a ~56mm f/2.2 on my crop body. It may not be as awesome as 35mm f/1.4, but on a crop body, it's as special as it gets.

I've been a hobbyist shooter for years on everything from viewfinder to SLRs to DSLRs but lately I've been tinkering with my iphone camera. It's perfect to have along while I'm doing my other passion --riding -- and I find I've been loving the results.

My photography is mostly of the kids and their school's sporting events. It's a great release and helps to create tremendous memories for the kids and families. Here are a few shots:
