Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like how the seller keeps trying to tell these idiots (or pretend idiots--I can't believe anybody could be that stupid) that the frame is not repairable. People see what they want to see.

For when ebay pulls the listing. Too bloody funny.

"Nothing could damage it twice" Flawless logic

I love ebay!

uestion & Answer Answered On
Q: Hi. I am doing some experiments with "the miracle that is duct tape", and was thinking this frame might be a great test -- can it be held together and built up with duct tape at the breaks -- except maybe the rear seat stay which looks like you would need to add a stick or tube -- maybe from a roll of paper towels? Have you tried? Otherwise, I have always wanted to have a Colnago frame hanging on the wall in my study, but I could never justify the cost -- until now. But I cannot see hanging it on my wall if a cyclist was injured in the creation of this beautiful tattered artwork, so my question is -- how did it get in this condition? And how much will the shipping be to Tokyo? Jan-05-11
A: Hello, this was on the wall in my garage, with the other carbon frames.. all the frame parts are included and if you want to put all together with tape I think it's possible. this was mine.. a big crash going down the mountain but by the way.. I'm here now.. :-) My big regret is the mountain of money spent on this bike now destroyed ... I can ship it to tokyo without problem, you can see the indication of 60€ for shipping (is the faster airmail service, but if you want I can ship with a service slower and less expensive.. I think that 35-40€ enough for seamail shipment (about 1 month delivery time).. Best REgards! AMbro
Q: Hi, I like the frame but I am not sure if has the right size for me. I am rather tall, do you think a long seat post would help to make it rideable for me? Mob from Bremen Jan-04-11
A: Hi Mob.. when this was a frame the rider is 174cm. I think that is small for a tall rider, but the problem is rebuilt it.. I read every day message about this frame.. but I really don't think that it will be rideable againg.. it needs a miracle.. Best Regards and wishing for the auction! AMbro
Q: I'm sure that I could insert pieces of ebony wood and epoxy them into place to repair the frame. For it is such an Extremely Powerful frame, nothing could damage it twice. Please tell me the internal diameter of each tube, so that I may calibrate my lathe to produce such powerful repair parts as to make it indistinguishable from factory new. Zaidiko Jan-04-11
A: Hello Zaidiko, I'm happy of it.. Now i'm out of home, i'll come back tomorrow evening. I wish that I can send you the measures that you need but, but I'm not sure of it... within the end of bid.. I'll make the possible. Best REgards! AMbro
Q: is the item insured when shipped to prevent damage? Jan-04-11
A: I'll make a good packaging with the frame parts with care.. but by the way it's broken, I don't think that it can be damaged more.......
Q: It doesn't look too bad, are you sure it can't be glued back together? Bergi, New Zealand. Jan-03-11
A: Hello. I think that is impossible..
Ask seller a question

Well, you can't sale [sic] anything. I remember a while back someone tried to sell a few kilos of cocaine on ebay. Ebay contacted law enforcement and pulled the auction.

I wonder if you could have this fixed by Calfee. Shouldn't cost more than $500 or so...

actually, given that his diagram shows the chain-stay to be 53cm long, this would be a fantastic fixer-upper touring bike, stable, no heel strike issues with panniers--man I wish I hadn't had missed the auction.
It could have been a carbon version of those super long chainstay "duty" bikes whose names I forget right now, but with the panache of the name and the dazzle of carbon fibre (combined with the utilitarianism of duct tape)

This type of auction is going to be more and more common as EBay lowered the cost for creating an auction. Should be fun.

Someone like my Dad, with all good intentions, would have taken that bike, cut down some wood dowels to fit and slobbered a bunch of epoxy or JB Weld over the wounds. Follow that up with a paint brushing.

Then he'd be p.o.'ed that no one wanted it.

When you're broke, you buy a broken frame.

Why would you buy a demolished frame? After shipping the buyer could have bought a used bike off of CL or a garage sale or something. Really no matter how you put the frame back together it won't have the same integrity, and if you add wood and epoxy to it, it will no longer be as light. So... Would you buy it and piece it together for image only?

I think someone bought it as the ultimate bike prank. Imagine coming back home to find your Colnago frame in pieces. Would make for killer Youtube video and think of all the laughs you'll have afterwards after your buddy tries to beat you with a baseball bat.

Could be a prank. Would be funny but I'm not dropping $160US or so to do one.

Q&A was funny.
