I rode the DiNucci today for 48 miles and 3,600' of climbing in the ranch lands of Marin and Sonoma Counties. Our hills are starting their slow change from green to brown and the California Poppies were waving their bright orange flags in the prevailing northwest wind.

Today being a stupendously lovely spring day, I went out for a 50 minute spin on the Motobecane this morning. No pics, just a tiny word report. I rode part of the commute I was doing up until this covidy business started. Got about maybe a third of the way to work before I hit enough jogger traffic that I thought it wise to turn around. Traffic was light, way lighter than it used to be during morning rush hour. But then, I was later than morning rush hour.

30+ miles on the new to me Tenax Schwinn. Other than a slight variance in the crank spider it felt great. A little train traffic - I believe this railway belongs to Canadian-Pacific. This is along the Susquehanna River, where Solomon Creek empties into it. Fun Fact, the Susquehanna is the longest river on the east coast, and one of the oldest existing rivers in the world.

Got soaked on my ride tonight. Oh well, I haven't melted from the rain yet At least it was somewhat warm!

First ride with these new to me Cane Creek SCR-5 levers and I really liked them. Really nice lever body shape, a smooth transition from the tops of the bars to the hoods, and better braking power than the non-aero Dia-Compe levers that were on there before

Had to pick up some spokes from Marcus at Yojimbo's Garage, so that made it urban ride day, Across the street from the shop on Clybourn is a ghost bike and small sign marking the crash that took the life of Bobby Cann. I believe the technical term for his demise is "complete miscarriage of justice." Bobby has been gone nearly eight years. I didn't know him, but I still think about him on occasion, certainly whenever I'm in the neighborhood of Marcus's shop. It's too late to protect Bobby, but Clybourn now has bike lanes protected from traffic by a concrete curb.

It's very similar to one that passed through my hands a few years ago, so I'm fairly confident that this one dates from the late 50s or early 60s. Those old Chicago Schwinns are pretty indestructible.

Last day in Nevada City. I got up early before the wife and daughter and snuck in one more quick ride--about 15 miles of road and trails, and ~1,800' climbing. The highlight was a beautiful, packed trail that twisted for about 3 miles alongside a canal under redwood cover.

However, I had a loose stem issue and had to switch to a different bike. So it was 7 miles on the Lemond and 49 miles on the pink Black Mtn Road.

I got off the Canal today and headed down Cape to Chatham...did the Loop!...and then some! Took the ‘99 Specialized A1Sport...Big boy ride compared to the Canal! Definitely throwing a bike in the back of the truck for after work burns! One hour rides as fast and as fast as possible! Yesteryears burn bike was a Trek 1400! I’m gonna resurrect it this weekend along with the Miyata 1000! Awesome bike for the Chatham Loop!

My sweetie and I took the tandem out this morning, first road ride in over a year! Only 15 miles, a cool day, cloudy except during our short stop at the North Bridge. Up on the hill is the Buttrick House. Some little bit of mischief happened here back on April 19, 1775. Actually it started in Lexington, a few towns east of here.

Spaghetti Legs 

25 mile ride through mostly drab edge of town development but did one leg through the countryside. I don’t think I’ve shown off my Tommy’s new Cobaltos I installed last fall. Also first ride on the new rear hub installed after the “wobbly freewheel” thread. Worked great and posted one of my faster rides in a while.

Finally finished building up a Van Tuyl frame and took it for a ride around the block for a shakedown and final adjustments.

The weather was nicer to look at than to be in. It was cold and windy, and with the sun still low in the sky visibility left a lot to be desired:

All the creeks, Elk Creek, Turkey Creek, Deer Creek. Aka Deer Creek Canyon loop. Another wonderful ride I can hit from my doorstep.

This ride had extra meaning for me, as I crashed descending after tapping out on this loop about 2 years back. I was woefully underprepared then. I also rode a good chunk of this last fall but finally got the loop done today. Nice to reach the top but there were a lot of intermediate climbs/descents between the two “canyons” so it was a bit of a false hope. Next time gotta pay more attention to the elevation profile. As usual the descent was fast and fun, but a tad chilly this morning.

My wife has been using the Nordictrak Bike for the last 3-4 weeks. She suggested I go for a ride today. After telling her I was going to go on Lee Dr. she asked to go with. She did almost 7 miles, which is good for her and she has improved greatly!

I took the Trek 760 out to test the 26 mm bar in the 1R 26.4 stem and to check out the problem with small ring/second to largest sprocket jumping out of gear. The RD cable needed half a turn and the bar did not rotate. The right brake leve did move. I think the bar/stem combination will go on the De Rosa when the effort doesn't feel so bad.

The ride was really good, a bit short, but the bike was really a good rider. This is the first longer ride I have taken and the gearing is pretty good for my state of condition and it being a 7 V block.

This is the terminal of the ride that I took on another ride a couple of years ago. Have to have a pic or it didn't happen!
