Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

When I got divorced, my ex-friend moved into my ex-house with my ex-wife and my ex-dog. I got my pickup truck and a guitar.

It's like a country song.

I inherited money from my grandmother and my parents, but, except for taking an allowance for a few years when we were when were training, and our house purchases, we always lived on what we made and managed to put a decent amount away. Therefore, my goal is to pass on what I inherited more or less intact and duly inflated because I never felt that it was really mine to spend.

That said, my parents also did a lot for me and I I grew up with huge cultural and educational advantages and privileges, which very much put me where I am today.

It's a country song, of course there's beer involved. The other country song about wine, women, and whiskey was after the divorce, and had a much different vibe.

My Dad used to sing a line from a song, "Cigarettes and whiskey, and wild, wild women! They'll drive you crazy, they'll drive you insane!", but that's all he sang of it.

My Dad also used to sing us to sleep with a song called "Lone Sod Shanty", about a drunken farmer, his long suffering daughter, and a branding iron. You wanted to fall asleep before he reached the end of the second verse. Trust me.

When I got divorced 30 years ago, I sent the guy a thank you note and told him there were no returns.

BTW, I have lost so much weight that last night as I was leaving work, I pulled my hand out of my jacket pocket and heard a faint *pling!* sound. I looked down. There was something round on it. I looked closer.

It was my wedding ring, which had slid right off my finger. I gotta be careful.

We rarely ride tandem anymore due to my wife's vertebrae fractures and subsequent back pain. Anything near 35 miles sidelines her for a few days.
A big part of why I want a tandem is so that I can share longer rides with her, but I also understand that she does not have the same cycling goals that I do.

Adding to the difficulty is that a road tandem would likely need to be a custom - I could probably ride a 58cm CTC captain but would prefer a 62cm, and she would need absolutely no larger than a 52cm CTT. And that height difference certainly will affect visibility from the stoker position.

This though, if I could find one...I bet I could make a stronger argument

Tandem riding for couples can be great or it can be a disaster. It’s a shame because good tandems are so expensive and the sport can be difficult to get in to.

So I just finished ordering a pair of gran prix 4000 IIs. Found em on Ebay. But who can tell me why? Can anyone guess?
If you guessed because the Michelin pro4 endurance tyres I was testing out failed miserably. You would be correct!
Send your answer written on a 3 by 5 card with you return address and postage paid envelope , plus 2 box tops with the receipt to.....
6 miles... that's all it took for the first puncture. It was a piece of quartz stuck in the Tyre. I busted off my thumb nail removing it too. Booted it with a dollar. Made it 2 more miles when I got the second flat in another spot. THATS IT! IM DONE. Said good by to the group, borrowed a tube for emergency use and headed back.
What a shame. I really liked them. Nice ride, very supple, low rolling resistance. Good grip. Ah well.

Either I was imagining a larger "tidy sum", or pre-nups are 'spensive.
