Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just ordered a 7005 alloy/carbon fork frame to replace the horrible £30 steel frame on my winter/commuting bike.

https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/detail...e=RIBBFRAW0200

Yeah, he used it once. In the photo shoot for the ad. Then he passed on the free one they gave him as payment to his cousin or something.

£120/$210

No more rattling along the street on a 3kg rust bucket spaghetti frame! Eat that retro nonces!

Congratulations on your buy. Will you simply transfer components over or use this opportunity to buy newer stuff?

Nah, I'll just swap over everything from the other bike, barring the seatpost that won't fit. It's Mirage/Xenon/Chorus/Veloce, a Brooks, a CXP22/ambrosio back wheel and an MA3/105 front.

Plus buying a new frame means I won't have to clean the old one.

I think it's cool that you've been riding a clunky retro-steel frame all this time! I mean a lot of others would say that's kinda dorky, but I think it's great. I never imagined you as the "steel is real" type, but until today, you have been!

Was it really rusting? I'm serious. I would think rust is a real issue for steel frames, especially for a winter / bad weather bike, but I never see anyone admit to it.

Yes, it's been stored outside in the wet British weather for about 18 months. There's orange/brown streaks all over it.

Lot of talk about Ribble here on the forum lately. Nice looking mix for $210.

The old frame attached. God I'm going to enjoy throwing it in a skip when the new one comes.

No pics of the new one until it arrives in Feb.

I'm killing my steel ride this month also

But i'll be sad to see it go it was my first real road bike - but I'm sure my shiny new red cannondale with ultegra 10 components will help me get over it.

Fenders! On a "fast" bike! In an ad for a road bike! Wow.

Congrats on the upgrade. Looks like fun.

Seems like a good value including fork, particularly for the intended purpose.

At that price and that tube set I wonder if it's one of the same frames that shows up under a number of different manufacturer's names...

Enjoy!

Ribble markets the frame specifically as a winter bike.

There was a story a couple months ago where a homeless guy got a rude awakening as he was dumped into the trash truck and the compactor started up...

Don't have the frame yet. Will come in Feb. Between now and then I'll think about wether I'll loose the cut down Brooks and stick an SLR XP on it.

Recycle the frame. I'm sure someone less fortunate could use it.

I think I'll buy a Lemond steel road bike frame. Wonder when they're gonna start using Reynolds 953. Mmmm...
