Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is this the 41?

The guys on 33 told me that I am 41 material. Not sure if 41 is the nickname for this subforum.

Yes this is the 41.

And I don't think the gang in the 33 were giving you a compliment, in case you had not guessed.

Actually, it's much more civil. Because most everybody that posts regularly in the 33 races, and the number of people who race in the US is reasonably small, a good number of people in the 33 know a number of other posters in real life, or have some common acquaintances within a couple of degrees of separation.

That lack of anonymity makes people much more civil.

It's rather awkward flaming other people, or making outrageous brags that you can't back up, when you know you'll see some of these people at your next race.

Prior to forum reorganization a couple of years ago, all the sub forums had numbers in the URLs

The only ones I remember is 33 for racing, 41 for road cycling and 26 for the Mountain Bike.

Ditching the numbers probably helps SEO a bit.

2007 or 2008 was when I stopped cycling. Started up again last year.

Actually the 33 has been very helpful and have encouraged me to race. But I'm not going to be a 33er til I man up and actually race.

But sometimes there are threads where I don't know if it is more appropriate in the 41 or the 33. Like questions about training with power. I guess it's the 41 if you are not racing.

Not really. Most people in this forum have a hard time ponying up a few bucks for new tires, much less a power meter.

A not unimportant distinction but the best place to ask any question regarding race training/preparation/hardware is to your teammates/coaches.

Join a USAC affiliated Cycling Club, participate in the "new rider" program and have at it.
Certified coaches, experienced teammates and a good solid program are excellent resources to take advantage of.

Not rough. Just an extremely low tolerance for the BS and petty bickering that pervades so many 41 threads.
