Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

new bike gifted into the fleet.

that makes five bikes now... I think that's one too many.

This bike was gifted to me today. Can you guess where it came from?

2010 Argon 18 Gallium Pro
Full DA 7900 Di2
Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL with CycleOps Powertap Pro
Specialized toupe saddle

She just needs some Zipp contour SL handlebars and it's ready to roll.

Now the only question that remains is which one is my beater bike?

I'll trade you my Allez Sport. Then you'd have a clear beater bike. Just trying to help out

My first road bike was an allez comp. I think the bike that I'm going to get rid of is my rock hopper. Bought it last year for a weekend trip and haven't used it since.

once in a lifetime thing I'm sure tardman

You may be able to convince me to take the rock hopper... I'll be driving past Toronto in a month

So, please share how one goes about getting "gifts" like that? I want to sign up...

Step 1) Work in a high profile position for the marquee sponsor of a pro cycling team.

Step 2) Have owner of said company see you riding a bike from the competition.

To be fair I have access to argon 18 at cost. When I was buying last year they didn't have the gallium pro in my size and I wasn't interested in their lower models. I was going to wait for the spring and get the 2011, but I got the Felt frameset at a price that I couldn't resist, so I gave up on getting the argon.

See Rule 12
"While the minimum number of bikes one should own is three, the correct number is n+1, where n is the number of bikes currently owned. This equation may also be re-written as s-1, where s is the number of bikes owned that would result in separation from your partner."
