Today I'm going to mountain bike, then I'm going to mountain bike again tomorrow.

I'm at that point of my season where I have little to no interest in riding my road bike . Next week I'll probably ride Fiesta Worlds on the roadie, but otherwise stick to the trail, the Wabi, and Tuesday Night track racing.

I punched a wall today and left a small dent. I am sick and tired of lazy wrenches who don't do their jobs properly when safety is concerned. Make sure before a bike leaves the shop the pedals are tight ALWAYS!

However good news is I am going with three close friends for a Spa weekend (during the week) at some springs and hoo-boy am I excited. Two days of rest and relaxation in springs and massages and countryside. Can't wait, I need it bad.

Today I swapped saddles between my road bike and fixed gear as I was having numbness issues and couldn't level the saddle on the fixed gear. Oddly enough, after swapping the saddles, I was able to level both of them. Now I just need some miles on the bike to test it. Feels good to get a problem sorted out!

Tim, you're an animal! I'm sitting at only 1400-ish for the year, and I ride my bike every day. (Obviously, I average less than 10 miles per ride.)

I thought I like to ride bikes. You must REALLY like it.

I had an ~800 TSS week last week, which is a lot for me. But I was super inactive the week before, so I'm not too tired. Looking forward to more hammering this week and next before I back off on the training for 6 weeks and let myself have a normal life for a little while

Modern LED lights have revolutionized my riding. As an example, I just go back from a 52 mile road ride and 40 of that was in darkness. Initial setup with high quality lights costs a few dollars but for me it was an investment.

I love hearing about your high intensity rides on the fixed gear and how much you enjoy the bike. Stuff like that from other riders inspires me so don't stop posting about it.


I did some rough math and 165,000 calories is something like 560 slices of pizza.

It's good to back off when riding bikes becomes work. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.

I did my standard interval workout yesterday, on my Parallax. (10 laps, 1.35 miles each, plus warmup and cool down). I was feeling pretty strong and averaging 4:08 per lap, which is about par for me lately--not headed for a PR, but not bad. For my 10th lap, I decided to really push it and see if I could break 4:00. I turned on all the steam I had left as soon as I crossed my start/finish line, and did not let up once... one and one-third very tough miles. Last lap time was 3:43! I was ecstatic to find I could pull that off. Total time for the 13.5 miles was 41:11, which is close to a new PR after all (I have to look back through my log to confirm). Then I cooled down, got off the bike, and got ready to load it on the car. I was absolutely spent and could hardly stand up for about 10 minutes. My wife even noticed and said, "You seem really exhausted!" That was a heck of a workout.



I've been doing this workout once a week, taking a long-ish ride once a week (30 to 60 miles usually), and four days a week just little 3 to 10 mile cruises. I feel blessed to have several really nice bikes that bring me so much enjoyment, fitness benefits, and just a good reason to get out and do something.



Next week I might do another hour challenge... see how far I can go in 60 minutes, which will by necessity require less than max intensity, but for a duration nearly 150% of my usual.



The other thing I want to try is some 1K sprints. I need to find a perfectly flat road with no traffic and measure out the exact distance. I'll try to get my wife and daughter to go along and help, so one can hold me at the start (saving perhaps two or three seconds that I usually take to clip in), and the other can time me. I'll have them on the phone with one another to coordinate the timer start. I honestly don't know how quickly I can ride 1000m... maybe 1:30, 1:25, or ??? The world record (on a track) is just a few seconds under a minute. Really curious how fast I can do it.

She goes there and rides laps with me! We also ride an MUP sometimes. She is not very fast, but she's a much better rider than she was a few years ago, and it's something we really enjoy doing together. Both of us are testaments to the fitness benefits of biking.

I decided to do lap cards instead of race tonight. I dig lap cards. It's an "important" position, you get a front seat for all the action, and you get to cheer on your friends in all the races. Plus you get to ring the bell

I know I'd dig it. I'ts my dream to race on a track someday. There is not one within 500 miles of my home. But I'm holding out hope they will build one someday. There's a cycle park not too far from here, with BMX track, cyclocross course, and some other stuff. It's been in the master plan to add a velodrome ever since the park was built six or eight years ago. They're still trying to pull the funding together. Last I heard, they have something like six million dollars and only need another three million. It's all rumors, though. If it ever comes together, I'll be there every week; I don't care what a membership costs. By that time, I'll probably be able to ride in the Masters category, but Ima be ready!
