Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New bike day first ride

Ok, technically new bike day was Wednesday but I finally got to really give it a good ride. The bike is a 2018 Tarmac Comp Disc. I really like the Ultegra 8020, shifting is really nice, like the fact it does have an Ultegra crank. The disc brakes are really good, I’ve used the mechanical stuff and this is so much better. Modulation is impressive. I had owned an SL4 Tarmac Sport And this is the Fact 10R SL5, with only one ride I’m not sure I can tell the difference just yet. It’s a smaller frame so I’m tweaking the fit but decided to go with it as delivered with the exception of rear cassette change and stages power left arm. The wheelset is quite heavy but it is what it is
I know I could have gotten the SL6 frame but at the price point I was in the 105 bike was the SL6 offering with Fact 9R. I chose better carbon and Ultegra over thru axle, 105 and flat mount brake calipers. I am very happy with the decision.
Overall a nice riding bike but dated technology in some ways. That’s ok at almost 50 it’s far more capable than me.

Regardless of our age, I have yet to meet a person who was more capable than their bike😀
I hope you enjoy the new bike and good luck with your quest to reach its limit.
It is a beauty and new bike day is always great.

Good point Shuffleman, I will add I just can’t quite think about the more relaxed or endurance type bikes just yet but one solid truth is I always feel like a kid when I’m ridding a bike so I’m going to keep going and the race geometry still works for me so I’m in good shap I think.

We are about the same age and I'm not sure about the relaxed geometry frames. My 1st road bike was a Felt Z series. It was ok but I have had multiple bikes since and the more racing geometry bikes feel more comfortable and natural. Hopefully it stays that way.

Fwiw, I'm 66 and still prefer race geometry.

What's it weigh, & what does your other bike weigh?

I have an older Tarmac, & idly think of upgrading to a newer frame.
