Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your Weekend/Week Ride Reports -- Feb 2/3

We're into the second month of 2019. Tell us about your cycling endeavours this weekend.

Are you caught in the "polar vortex" and stuck inside? That's OK, tell us about your indoor cycling challenges.

Are you doing some cross training?

Or are you enjoy the heat of the southern summer?

Saturday -- Sadly ... nothing. It was a gorgeous day for a ride, but I may have injured myself and it was highly recommended that I rest this weekend until we know for sure after my MRI on Wednesday.

Damn it....got my new dream bike this week and today it's 25F out right now and 2 inches of snow on the streets and bike paths I'm sure. Guess I'll be riding my old bike on the trainer in the basement again.

finally caught a break in the weather in NY and got out for 52 miles. With temps going into the 50's tomorrow I'll be commuting to work by bike. This will hurt after today's ride.

28 miles Saturday and Sunday on the road bike, both pushing pretty hard. Snagged a few new PRs. I don't feel much stronger and my legs feel cooked so I'm going to credit some new tweaks to the bike fit to encourage myself to spin more rather than mash. Seemed to help. Still waiting for the thyroid meds to kick in after surgery back in November. Got an appointment with my endocrinologist Monday. Hoping lab tests will show the meds are starting to work.

And now I'm gonna rest for a couplafew days. I think I've been pushing hard, which is fine, without appropriate rest, which is not so fine.

Saturday did the standard S. Tampa ride between Picnic and Davis Is. for 40 miles. Perfect bike weather...60's, low winds and sunny. Oddly, it was supposed to be a crappy day. Sunday I went to visit my daughter in the next county. This was forecast as a nice day, but it was foggy, damp and drizzly. The lack of exercise from the past weekend caught up with me and I had some seriously sore legs. Total was 47 miles.

I got up and thought it was going to be cold and rainy on Saturday, so i ran some errands. the whole time, i was thinking look at the sunshine out there. so i finished up, and got out to do some hill repeats ( the only way to get any climbing where i live). it was nice, but there was a HUGE headwind in the uphill

direction. I just chalk it up to natural interval training! Sunday was an hour and a half on the trainer hating not getting out in the fresh air.

Between snowstorm, polar vortex, post-vortex rain, and then refreezing and more snow, my mileage as been abysmal.

So I did something I never thought I'd do and purchased a trainer. 40 minutes with some fast music was actually a pretty solid workout. Once I get the HRM going, maybe I'll do intervals or something.

We are hit by the polar vortex here in Quebec city, but it's just a good time to go on the fat bike!

Did a 55 with the group on Sat AM, a 65 solo Sunday AM. Pretty chilly both starts (high 30s) warming up to the 40s by the end each day. Good weekend

Nothing but snow and ice here so no ride all week. Snowing now again, not the usual PNW weather. Usually snow comes and melts right away but not this time.

Wrong weekend but still applies for the most part.
