Surly Cross Check headset issue
Im tuning up a friend's Cross Check and after ordering a 1 1/8" Cane Creek headset I found out Surly used 1 1/4" headsets. I tried finding one but I'm finding it difficult.
Anyone have a recommendation or source to get one? The original, Ritchey, has a flat spot.
Thanks in advance.

My former Cross Check used a standard 1-1/8" headset and Surly's website's specs on the current Cross Check also specifies a 1-1/8" headset. I think you measured incorrectly or were given bad info.

Jmpierce If you cannot find a replacement - remove the lower cup and the crown race
rotate each part 90 degrees in opposite direction - crown race 90 deg to the right, lower cup 90 deg to the left
use new balls and re-assemble with heavy grease. Re-adjust properly
it will work for a long time.

I installed a 1-1/8" King headset in my 2012 CrossCheck (built from frame and fork) and it has worked fine for 11 years. I'd measure again.

I did find a 1 1/4 no name headset on eBay that I'll keep as a backup.
