Anyone tempted by the new Raleigh Chopper?

The local bikeshop has already got several advanced orders. It doesn't look quite right without the central shifter, but it does have a certain style...

Reminds me of my Schwinn Sting Ray when I was 12 years old. Nothing new in this world I guess.

Sweet. But would need to do something about the seat - from the angle I saw it looked like a normal saddle with a back piece...

The Mk1 and Mk2 in the late 60's 70's had banana seats - I wonder whether it's a safety issue?

Absolute quality! Brings back memories that does, be persuading the wife to let me have one of them for a run around!
The seat looks in two pieces now though )-:

I looked into it Richard but they are only doing them in sizes suitable for children.

I had my worst bike accident on my brother's Chopper (ball gearstick interface) but agree it doesn't look right without the shifter.

I just saw a vintage Raleigh chopper at the local Minibike Olympics last weekend. I'm planning on checking out a full sized Phat chopper tomorrow.

A good Raleigh chopper site:

Good vintage Sting Ray Pix:

NO. NO. NO. NO.

Had one when I was in my teens, and they were crap then and modern manufacturing techniques will not improve them.

My cousin had a bike back then that had a frame like a Chopper, really long forks, and a steering wheel. No kidding. And yes, it came that way.

Has anyone ever seen one of those?

There's a picture at the following location, not a chopper, but the caption says it's a 1968 Huffy, and originally came with the steering wheel, I've attached a copy below:
https://www.geocities.com/chopper10sp...die68wheel.jpg

Check this link for more pictures of similar bikes:

Schwinn also sold those steering wheels as accessories for their Sting Ray bikes in the 60's I think.

OMG. I think that is it. Same color too. I thought the forks were longer, but it was a long time ago. If I remember right, it was not easy to ride unless you were used to it.

It's got the pedals forward in recumbent style, somewhat. Wouldn't mind taking it for a spin (if they made it in my size.)

Not on the website, but go to a Giant shop and ask to look at the photos of the Stiletto. It is BAD. Looks like a real freaking chopper. I ordered one based on the picture, have no use for it, but it is so wicked I can't stop myself. The only thing it needs is jockey shift. Supposed to be week 17. If it does not come out I am breaking out the torch and steel myself.

Nah...not really. I'm still lusting for the 71 Orange Krate I had when I was a kid. I've thought about buying a reproduction, but without the stik shifter, it's just not the same.

Go for it. My brother had a Schwinn Stingray when we were kids. What a neat bike.
