Reporter interested in those carfree.

To Those Carfree,
I am a student reporter from Columbia University’s Graduate School of
Journalism reporting on car-free living in the U.S. If you, any
individual or any family you know live car-free, I would be very
interested in hearing about your challenges/ reasons for becoming
car-free and reactions from those around you.

I live in New York City where many people are car-free. However, I
think it will be important to report on the challenges people face who
live in smaller communities such as towns and suburbs more typical of
the rest of the country. I would be grateful if you could get back to
me if you are car-free or if you know any individual or family who
lives car-free. My email is ts2279@columbia.edu.

Please feel free to pass this message to other appropriate forums or
people you think may be interested. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sure, I'll write some stuff up for you from suburbia. Though, I'm only car-lite.

if you really want to provide thorough coverage of the subject, i would recommend reporting on BOTH car-free and car-lite as well as "utility cycling" and how it differs from "recreational cycling"

car-lite is someone who owns or has access to a car (one car for household or via car-sharing) but uses a bike/transit for most trips (e.g. to work, normal shopping) and the car only for *special* trips - i.e. hauling large items, caring for elderly/disabled or long-distance trips.

i have been car-lite since 1998: 2 years in Portland OR, 1 yr Worcester MA, and 4 years Munich Germany (actually 2 years car-free, then car-lite)
