Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hey, It's My Latest Bike

Haven't posted a bike build in awhile...

Fastrax frame - rebadged Salsa Primero. True Temper S3 steel. DA 8 speed group with Ultegra compact crank. My old Mike Garcia custom wheels.

18.4 pounds as pictured.

May not be the prettiest or most technologically advanced rig in the pack but it is a super ride....

Special shout out to Bob Dopolina for his help with this.

Nice bike. I like how the wheels and tape tie in. Very cool.

Nashbar GR2. Their version of the Arione. $28 with coupons.

Aha! Thought it was.

I was actually thinking about picking up that saddle off Nashbar. How is it? And have you compared it with an Arione?

5 years ago, I acquired an Arione and fell in love with it. But, I'm a believer that all my bikes need to have the same saddle and switching them over was to say the least, expensive.

So I tried the Nashbar model and liked it. I've been riding it ever since. The GR2 is the newer version but its very similar to the older model.

When I first saw it, I picked up the resemblance of the Arione, so it's nice to have someone who's owned both to give me a comparison.

I'll probably order it within the next couple of weeks then. Maybe sooner.

And hey, it's only $35!

No...even if it did, I doubt I would want it. Too much blue for my taste...throws off the black balance. It does come in white though.

Looks like a clean build.

However, my eyes keep going to the total absence of steering tube. It just looks unusual for such a compact frame with conventional looking tubes to have zero steering tube. I'm sure it's just me.

Frame is a 60 and I could have gone with the 58 but I like the big headtube - 195 mm vs. 178 mm. Allows me to use a 5 mm spacer as opposed to 22 mm.

What's the seatpost?

And does the weave in the fork have a kind of spiral?

Nice business-like bike...

That built up really nicely.

The wheel choice works well with the frame. I think a deeper rim would be out of proportion.

BTW, what's wrong with your garage door? It looks a little...green?

I had a GR2 once and liked it, but I wouldn't really compare it to an arione.

Exactly. It has been sprayed flat black.

Fork is a generic, full carbon (including steerer) with the 12k weave.

Yep...I'm not into the whole 80 mm wheel profile thing. Probably due to poverty.

With envy? Hah...see my note about poverty. Actually, whole house is due to be painted in 2 weeks.

While I won't argue that the Arione is a far superior saddle, the quality I liked the most about it was the shape. Which translates well to the GR2.

I don't mean the arione is better, it just feels different to me is all. It does look like an arione though. At any rate, nice bike and ride whatever saddle is more comfortabe.
