Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My new Bianchi Infinito

Well, after weeks of waiting for the container to arrive, my LBS (thanks go out to Ian-wrench/sales, Keith-owner and Jean Paul-sales @ Nonstop Ciclismo) finally called me to let me know that my Bianchi Infinito was fnally "home." They could not find a 2011 model on my size, so instead they found me a 2012 model (for the same agreed-upon price as the 2011 model).

I have just returned from the movies and dinner, so this is just a quickie photo. MOre photos, and a ride report will soon follow. So, without further ado here is the latest addition to the stable.

The Celeste Princess...

She now joins the other steeds in the stable:

La bella Italiana...

The Ti beauty

The Cannondale alu mountain goat...

I like how the staging gets better by the time you get to the beeyonkee. Engineering is a process.

That's really nice. I'm going to test a 2011 Infinito tomorrow. Didn't know that 2012s were coming out yet. I might need to wait on the 2012. although this 2011 looks great, it's a black bike and I want Celeste.

Thanks you. the 2011 and 2012 Ultegra models come similalry equipped. The color differences between the 2011 and the 2012 are rather subtle. I like the 2011 color scheme better, but they could not locate a 2011 in my size (53cm).

Here is the 2011 model...

Compared to mine. Most of the differences are in the color of the seat tube and the black "character line" running from the front fork, to the top tube and down the seat stay. I think they tried to make the 2012 colors look more like the Oltre.

Cierto!

But, in defense of the seconda Italiana, it was a quick photo shoot and side shots do not do justice to the beautifully shaped seat tube and the equally beautifully shaped (and slender) chain and seat stays. I had looked at the Pinarello FP Quattro and though it is a great bike, I did not like the shape of the fat chain tubes on the FP (the fork and seat stays in the FP are awesome looking though).

Grazie.

It is a size 53 cm (I am a short guy ).

I had them change the saddle to a Selle Italia saddle and the tires to Michelin Pro3 Race (in Celeste green of course).

I have a Selle Italia on my other bikes and I run Michelin Pro3 so I wanted to go with something that I am already familiar with.

Such an awesome looking bike! Are you going to cut the top of the steerer tube once you've dialed in the fit?

I was saving up for the 2011 Infinito myself. But the pricing with Ultegra was pretty steep in my area. Something like $4000. I ran into a deal for a 2010 bike that was NOS at a dealer on vacation and bought that instead because of the price savings (it's a Felt Z4 and cost $1,800 less than the Infinito). I got the all carbon frame and the Ultegra group but not those great Bianchi looks. Congrats on a great looking bike. Enjoy!

PS. I too like the 2011 paint scheme better than the 2012. They should have left well enough alone.

Very nice.
I gotta ask; when taking out the seat tube water bottle, is there enough clearance or does it occasionally graze the top tube. I'd hate to see this beauty rubbed improperly.

Yes, that is #1 on the to-do list.

Today I took her for an easy 65 mile ride - some headwinds and a few mild hills.

I think I need to raise the stem a tad higher. Once it is done, the extra tube will be cut off. (Sounds kinda nasty!)

Cierto! But the Bianchi gods wouldn't have it any other way!

From Wikepedia:

Bianchi bicycles are traditionally painted celeste (pronounced che-les-te in Italian, Se-lest in English), a turquoise also known as Tiffany blue, although there are other colours. Myths say celeste is the colour of the Milan sky, the eye colour of a former queen (Tiffany) of Italy for whom Edoardo Bianchi made a bicycle (the crowned eagle of the company logo is an adaptation of the former royal crest) and that it was a mixture of surplus military paint.

The front bottle comes out no problem. The rear one is a bit trickier. Normally, however, I drink out of the front bottle; once that is empty, I rotate it to the back...that should hopefully take care of the problem.

That's a major drawback of compact frames, the downward slope of the top tube. My Bottecchia is the same size (53 cm) and there is plenty of room for the front and rear bottles.
