K-Force Crankset: Changing from 50-34 to 52-34 possible?
Hi, I have a K-Force light 34-50 crankset and have noticed it also comes in 36-52 and 38-52 configurations. Can I replace my 50 teeth for a 52 teeth to make it a 34-52? I read that the maximum change ratio used to be 14T but the factory 36-52 configuration has a 16T ratio and wonder if with newer systems (mine is DA-7900) that ratio can be taken to 18T.

No....16 tooth jump between chainrings is as much as you're going to get........
If you need a 34, chances are you don't need a 52....
and vice versa....
Just sayin'......

you can do it, but the shifting is very likely to be slow and unreliable because of the enormous jump in teeth between the two chainrings.
that and shimano, who have the best shifting technology, doesn't sell a 110BCD 52T chainring.
you can use an SRAM 110BCD 52T chainring, but they are designed for 36T small rings.

Would 36-52 be just fine? I happened to own the 36 chainring which bought off Ebay a while ago but have not used it yet, am waiting to get more in shape before I remove the 34, which I do use a lot for climbing. (Actually, a couple of my friends bought it too and are using it for a 36-50 configuration) I thought about the 34-52 combination (or another combination with the 34th and a higher chainring than 50) to have more speed in flat surfaces.
