Pairing brifters w v brakes/cantis

Am building up a cyclocross frame with canti mounts on the stays and fork. The Shimano brifters I've mounted on the drop bars don't work well w the v-brakes I installed----too much lever travel for actuation of the brakes! Is there a way/gadget to get around this apparant incompatibility...?

Travel agents will let you use your long pull v-brakes with your short pull levers. Most people just use short pull brakes (canti's not v's).

I've found that V-brakes with travel agents are way better than canti- brakes. The only thing going for the canti's is that they have better mud clearance. However, they can be a pain to set up and need to be done just right to get full power. In contrast, V-brakes are pretty straightforward, even when using travel agents.
