Some people just don't care about anyone but them selves.

Anybody that says they "don't care" about their responsibilities as a driver should be allowed to show how much they really do care about driving by not ever being allowed to drive again. It is that simple.

I think she is a dunderhead now and likely forever. How to keep her from behind the wheel is problematic, I would be willing to bet that she will violate the suspended license.

Wow, what a weak sentence. Potentially paralyze someone because of texting and driving, show absolutely zero remorse, and get a small fine and 9 month license suspension? She needs her vehicle taken away, her phone taken away, and some jail time. I like the one commenter's idea about having her volunteer in a hospital. She needs to see the consequences of her actions first-hand.

“I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bull**** and my car is like pretty expensive and now I have to fix it,” she told a police officer.
“I’m kind of pissed off that the cyclist has hit the side of my car.

This story sort of reminds me of the woman who went to jail after hitting a cyclist. In jail tapes, a friend tells the woman that she took out several different people at the same time. She laughed at the friend's remark. When the judge heard about it, he gave the woman a stiffer sentence.

Pretty disappointing sentance. I wonder if she'll also have to pay part or all of the medical bills. BTW, what's a "P-Plate"?

Yep, my teenaged daughter is at that stage now, but there's nothing on the outside of the vehicle to notify other people that she's a fairly new driver. Is the P-plate designed to be a warning to other drivers, a means of self-awareness to the new driver, or something else?

Yeah. License plate number begins with P most likely. At least that's how they do it in europe.
reading up on it, in australia they do it with DL coloring.

People are are so self-absorbed today. My brother-in-law was driving and struck by another car. The damage was absolutely minimal and his car is a collection of dings, so it wasn't really an issue. That is, until she would not get out of the car and stop talking on the phone. MY BIL finally called the police. The officer arrived and HE couldn't get her off the phone to give a statement. My BIL couldn't believe it. Finally the officer had to shout "Police trumps phone. Hang up - NOW!" She remained pissy for the rest of the report.

Yeah 9 months is absolutely nothing for someone who will probably do EXACTLY the same thing the moment she gets her license back.
She has learned nothing from this incident.
