I'm wanting to build up some new, lighter wheels for my old-school gravel/cross bike which has canti rim brakes.

I'd like to be able to run tubeless and I'd like the rims to be ok for tires up to about 45mm, tho I currently run 35-40mm and might just stick to that range most of the time (until I wear out my current stock of tires!).

So I *think* a rim that's 23mm wide is about right. These will be 700c and 32 hole.

Rims I've ID'd so far are:

Sun Ringle CR18 - 23mm width. These are what I currently run, tho in 36 hole with 14ga straight gauge spokes (heavy!). CR18s are inexpensive and have been durable and I have read that they can be run tubeless (with a layer of Gorilla Tape?), but haven't experimented. I replaced one rim right after building b/c the seam and brake track were not smooth which caused pulsing when braking (quality concern?). Single eyelet. Listed weight = 460g, ~ $32

DT Swiss R460 (rim brake model) - 23mm width. Spec'd as "tubeless ready." Machined brake track. Aero shape (I'm not sure that this is a plus for rough roads). No eyelets. Listed weight = 460g, ~ $45

H Plus Son TB14 - 23mm width. No experience with this brand. More expensive. Welded seam, machined brake track. Double eyelets, so eyelet extends to the rim-tape inside of the rim which seems like it would make tubeless setup difficult? Listed weight = 490g, ~ $60-76 depending on color.

Any other recommendations/experiences?

That is what I was going to suggest.

The Velocity Cliffhanger is also tubeless compatible and has a MSW option, but a bit heavier.

Watch for terms.

NMSW (non machined sidewall for discs)
MSW (machined sidewall for rim brakes).
