How many miles per week?
Just curious as to how many miles each person bikes per week. I'm currently at around a sad 50, although I really want to get into racing eventually, so I'll have to seriously increase that.
Also, is it best to bike say, 50 miles daily, or is it better to take breaks every other day..?

I ride 48 miles per day during the week, I do a century every Saturday and between 50 and 100 miles on sunday, I only take rainy weekend days off. I don't race, Im just on a milage mission. I like to ride 10,000 miles a year, it's just a thing I do.

Right now I'm doing between 130-160 a week. Not too bad. If I was just riding the road, my mileage would be much higher. But, I ride the track also, and that always cuts down on the mileage I could be doing on the road.

I get anywhere from 75-150 a week. But I'm getting paid for alot of it so that helps. I want to start riding to work a couple of days a week and that will add on another 40 or so miles a week.

According to my log, my last full weeks [Sunday to Saturday] were:
455.30 km - 282.91 mi (week of May 19)
408.96 km - 254.11 mi (week of May 26)
464.20 km - 288.44 mi (week of June 2)
381.40 km - 236.99 mi (week of June 9)
On average, that's about 430 km, or 267 miles per week. In midseason, I usually do about 450-500 km [280-310 miles] per week.

Since school has been out I average 150 mi per week. Next week I'm doing a tour so I will have around 300 mi. Then it will be off to Australia for 3 weeks so my mileage will be 0.
Come late August I will go back to work so my mileage drops considerably after that.
My goal is 3,000 mi for the year. If we have a good fall it will be doable.

We are renting a camper when we leave Sydney and plan to do hiking, maybe some biking if we can rent bikes.
When I was in Australia 10 yrs ago a lot of people smoked. I have smoke induced asthma. Here I just avoid cigarette smoke. Will I have problems in public places with the smoke. I'm bringing my inhaler just in case.

I have been averaging 210/ wk. since mid May (between both Road and Mtn. bikes)... but I did 312 this week, and expect to keep my average up to around 300+ through October.
Thursday I did 101 miles, averaged 15.4 mph, with two 15 min. breaks, and was still doing out of the saddle climbs and intervals at 90 miles... I think I did good.
I could have a better AVS, but I ride alot on the middle chain ring... have bad knees, and don't want to ruin my season.

As many as I can while still maintaining a job, relationship and some level of alertness, normally 250-300 km a week. But I think many people get too hung up on increasing their weekly mileage, just remember that you are cycling because you enjoy it, keep it fun. Mind you seeing an increase in your level of fitness is fun.

I'm not a commuter and I find it difficult to get out before or after work, so my miles are pretty much limited to the weekend. I don't really chart my miles per week but typically I average between 80 - 110 miles.

I have to say that I find the obsession with mileage a bit strange. Certainly if one is training to race seriously one might consider logging mileage statistics and obsessing about how far one rides each day.
However, I believe that the quality of the training, i.e. how intensely you train, is just as important, if not more important, than the quantity of training miles you put in each day.
I have read posts on bikeforums to the effect that "I don't bother to ride if it's less than 20 miles." When I read comments like this I laugh, and I laugh out loud.
I am often pressed for time and can only afford 20-30 minutes on the bike. In such cases, I simply go for it and work as hard as possible. I take a very short warmup and then I bust my gut; I look for the hills; I pay attention to my technique. One thing I do not do is obsess about the distance I am riding. I'm much more concerned about intensity of workout rather than tallying up miles.
Again, those with race aspirations will understandably focus on hi-mileage rides. However, I can't help but think that even these folks would benefit from a shift in mindset that focused more on workout intensity rather than workout duration/mileage statistics.

I've only been at it since last September. I am up to an average of 10 miles per weekday and about 15 on weekends.

I've been doing 20 to 25 miles everyday after work--alternating between the MTB and the road bike---its usually good and dark by the time I get done---and then taking Fridays and Saturdays off-----then usually 50 miles on Sunday-on the road bike.

I log and track my miles as a point of interest to me only, after all, ya gotta think about something when you're on a bike for over 3 hours a day 7 days a week. As far as training goes, I don't have time for it, I ride at a smooth 90 rpm spin on a 55 to 65 pound loaded bike, uphill and down hill, mile after mile, day after day, week after week, month after month and so on and so on. So, if you do that, you will get better at cycling and you will become a breathing muscle that eats around 5000 calories a day and never gains weight. And, you will become faster and have more endurance than most everyone you know. And, most importantly, you will ride well on most any bike that fits you, It is'n always the bike. But, I will say, that in order to be a long distance cyclist you have to have an excessive compulsive personality, like to be alone most of the time and not worry or be affected too much by the elements. One thing you will learn about riding partners, everybody quits. Few have the time, many unfortunately, don't see the value, and some are just too lazy. Many think I'm crazy, many don't know what to think of me, many just keep their distance but the reality of it all is, they all, in some way, wish they too could do what I do. The part that puzzles me is, They can, they just don't allow themselves to. Just ride your bike, everything else will come on its own, in time.
