38t chainring for a Apex 1 crank
i just purchased a new gravel bike with a Sram Apex 1 1x11 drive train. The chainring is a 40 tooth, 4 bolt, 110 bcd. I want a 38t but Sram doesn’t offer anything less than 40t. I see Wolf Tooth offers a Shimano 38t chainring that seems like it might work. Is Shimano compatible with SRAM in this situation?
When I was researching the new bike purchase there was no mention of this glitch in Sram’s offering. BTW the new bike is a 2019 Giant Revolt Advanced 1.
Thanks.

Why not contact Wolf Tooth and ask them?

The SRAM 110bcd 4-bolt asymmetric pattern is not the same as Shimano, FSA, Campangolo, or Easton 4-bolt asymmetric patterns. 44, 42, and 40t X-sync chainrings are the only readily available options. There are also 50/34 and 46/34 S-390 chainrings that'll fit, but they're hard to track down.

Fine bike BTY. I have a Giant Sedona and even their entry level bikes are way better then they have any right to be.
With all due respect, It seems like a lot of work to gain just a 5% increase in torque if its for climbing hills. The stock 26 gear inch low gear should just about cover it for most riders. But I must admit, the 110 gear inch top gear would be useless to me. I'd use the 10T sprocket as insurance I don't lose the chain and get it stuck in the frame.

I don't see anyone currently making anything less than a 40t for the SRAM 110 bcd asymetric pattern that would fit the Apex 1 crankset. The Rival 1 crankset has a removeable spider, so you could use any SRAM direct mount compatible chainring. It may be worth the upgrade, if you want lower gearing.

SRAM and Shimano assymetric 4 bolt pattern are off by around 2 degree. I tried measuring the PDF from the wooftooth website and it seems that Shimano is around 70 degree offset, while SRAM is either 68 or 72 degrees. I can't remember which. The difference is around 2mm.
