Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think that bright pink looks great unless you're really pale and pasty.

I used to love OP in the late 80's/early 90's.

Gah! Rapha order showed up, but it was in a suspiciously small package. Yeah, it's a base layer, not a merino wool sweater.

Contacted Rapha support via chat and they refunded me immediately, as they no longer have these available in Large, and gave me a voucher for $30 bucks off. Found a 1/4 zip merino polo sweater, instead. Let's hope it shows up fer real.

Lol. In the back and forth on the refund, etc, the rep and I never touched on what to do with the base layer that I received in error. I sent him another message asking if I should mail it back - he said to keep it. .

Today is the 7th anniversary of the fake death of Manti Te'o's fake girlfriend, Lennay Kekua.

Hardly anyone on facebook laughed at my dumb #RIPLennay post today. Sad!

Since everyone is famous for 15 minutes, we have a short collective memory.

So people are spending $1000 on Chinese clinchers now? Yikes. Why wouldn't you wait until the offseason and buy the 40% off Reynolds wheels?

The owner of tonight’s campground/inn/ hostel is a cross between Fred Flintstone and Randy Quaid’s character from Lampoon’s Vacation films. Nice guy though.

But....but....they ALL come out of the same factory in China anyway. Right?

I trust you are enjoying the unseasonably warm weather?

I lost my wedding ring a week and a half ago. I found it at the bottom of my desk waste paper when taking the garbage out. I'd been looking for it for three days.

True story: I was fiddling with my wedding ring many, many years ago in a movie theater where it's a big auditorium with a sloping concrete or tile floor. I dropped it and you could hear the clink, clink, clink as it rolled on the hard floor all of the way from the back of the theater to the front. I had to wait till the movie was over to go rushing down to the front and there it laid in front of the stage. Never hit a foot while rolling almost the entire length of the theater. I don't remember the movie but there must not have been hardly anyone in the audience.

I think we're going camping in Wyoming mid October. Curt Gowdy State Park. First come first serve for the entire park. That's fun.

Double bonus

On the jacket, would it work (ie be warm enough in 40-50 degree weather) to just wear a light synthetic T-shirt as an underlayer. I'm kind of interested, but can't see wearing a jersey with it - too much bulk in back with both the jersey and the jacket having rear pockets.

There's a Rapha store a few blocks from my office. It's been there for a few years, I think. I've never been in.

On that note, as the bike industry constricts, you wonder how some of these higher end retailers survive. I read here somewhere that Enve was being sold again. Maybe the consumer has decided their stuff is too expensive? You can't imagine they would go under, but it's possible.

Yeah, I think that it would work well with just a base layer in that weather.

FWIW, I'm not really a fan of buying stuff online, trying it on and shipping back and forth 'til you get it right, but Rapha does make it easy. Shipping is free over $75 (the jacket is $70, so you can either pay $5 for shipping or throw in some $10 socks to get over the hump) and return shipping is free (they send a return label with the shipment, though you need to do a return request online and include the resulting printout to be sure it's credited properly). IOW, it's a pretty quick, reasonably convenient and essentially risk-free to see if the materials, fit & finish are in line with expectations.

I resemble that. Unless I'm exercising hard: then I'm a nice flushed red. It doesn't match with pink either.
