Deal or No Deal on a used Brompton (10yr old) 6speed for $700

I came across used brompton for $700

it a older one without the rear clip. and Its a 6speed model with Brook leather seat. It got none matching paddle (one side is medal with teeth and other just plastic). It also got telescopic seatpost. Got rear rack and mud guard also

It's in an ok condition. I think after some basic maintenance and cleaning up i think it will be good.

I don't know much about the older one. I felt like it is little bigger and heavier than the newer.

Deal or no Deal?

You could spend an extra $100 to update some parts, add the rear clip, a pentaclip (assuming it doesn't have one). Replace some old bolts with allen socket type.
Overall weights for the bike haven't changed significantly for longer than 10 years. The main factor is the frame: in 2004 Brompton changed the geometry significantly, by lengthening it. Research that and figure out which type of frame this bike has. For most people the post 2004 frame (called 'long wheelbase' - LWB) is a better fit and probably a better ride.

Buy it for $600, ride it for two years while you save $1000 and sell it for $500, then buy a new one.

Or......................

Buy it for $600, spend $400 on upgrading it and sell it for $650. Then get a new one.

Think of all the wisdom you will have acquired for bargain price of only $350 !

Just kidding.

I take it has a dual calliper brakes?

I have an older brompton than this its fine but I have added a stem extender and bullbars and uprated brakes. The LWB is slightly better handling imo. It also has about 1.5 inches cockpit space and a stronger hinge (occuring to a quick answer from my local dealer).

So you must have a least $350 of wisdom!!

I am very wise; according to my model of acquired wisdom.

I could charge for my advice................

I prefer £ please.
