I believe swollen lithium batteries are dangerous. I brought one into the Apple store, and the salesman wouldn't even let me finish my story. He just gave me a replacement quickly.

They are - apparently it's gas, and if they are punctured they can become rather flammable. I've been dealing with them in older phones and now this laptop. e-Waste is not a simple matter.

In the RC world, we started dealing with high performance LiPO batteries about a decade ago. Not a few fires occurred before people learned how to charge, discharge and store them.
Puffing definitely bad...and when they burn, it’s super hot.

The Gios Torino SR got the bars switched from 40 to 42s and also new tape.

This morning I'm hanging a new Wipperman Connex 808 chain on a Trek 2100.
Yesterday it was overhauling the rear hub on a Dura-Ace wheel set with new grade 25 bearings and cleaning the cassette.
Added new Michelin tires, first time for that brand, at least on a bike.
The day before that it was a new Ritchey comp 27.2 seat post on somewhat vintage CF frame.

Does doing house hygiene count as wrenching?
It's sunny and thirty-one degrees with a chill of 20 something so it's looking like time for a second pot of coffee before riding.

Working on Christine...first ride since two Julys ago...when I ended up on the deck...took me awhile to figure out what happened...never stand up without being clipped in!
My first ride after rebuild...wrong shoes, wrong pedals, wrong time to stand up!
Right side shoulder still sneaks up once in awhile...rainbows on my inner thighs for a while...no clothes ripped...no damage to Christine...or was there?!
Must’ve ridden her since then...correct type pedals...
Strava showed about 35mph...25mph...———...!



Nice ‘n warm in the living room shop...no lubes till the rubber backed industrial rug comes in the bike shed... Just some adjustments and leveling the seat...

Love this stand...carries the 32-33lbs tool case in from the garage!

Got this extremely weathered and discarded Nishiki Backroads at the co-op this week for another forumista and began stripping it for shipment. First time in years I've had to use heat and impact to remove crankarms. First time ever I've had to cut a freewheel body off a hub. The steel seatpost was a bear to remove from the steel frame; not stuck but extremely reluctant to budge. I may not even try to true up the wheels.

Shucks, 'tweren't nothin' that you guys would not have done. That frame is my size and if I'd wanted it from a distance I'd have appreciated the help, and if somebody else wants it and will give it a good home it's the least I could do. Hate to see a good bike gone.

Years ago I wanted a pair of DC 135 alloy tourist levers for a 3-speed project and I happened to be at the Salvation Army, where I saw such a lever on a handlebar poking up from a dumpster in their yard. Climbed up for a look and found that it was a 23" yellow Motobecane Nobly with color-matched fenders, 27" wheels, a Sturmey 3-speed and it was gorgeous. Looked brand new. Hopped down and ran to the office and tried to buy it but, no, there had been an auction and that bike had not sold so...you guessed it, into the dumpster. And no amount of begging and pleading could reverse that company policy. That event sort of set my rescue direction.

Love this case...holds almost a complete shop...’cept lubes...they fit tho...nothing I can’t do on the road or at the campgrounds...so many other camper bike rider bike saving repairs done!
Portable Park Tool stand or the truck bike rack both work great...people are so grateful! Lotsa yard sale BSOs! Some surprises, too! Really good bicycles that they lucked into!

Bianchi TT Crono is getting some attention today, I will stretch the Conti Sprint 250 and have installed the bar tape and new (to me) levers.

I really like the look of these, one of my all-time favorites, 2nd only to Suntour Superbe levers....yes even more than Campagnolo levers.

The remains of the freewheel removal from the Nishiki Backroads. The "free"wheel was rusted fixed and it refused to budge for the remover, so I called in the HF angle grinder with cutoff wheel. I was able to remove the carcass with no damage to the wheel, in case I decide to use it again. For a bike that was not visually badly rusted, it was amazing how bad the individually components looked; front skewer rusted shut, chain rusted solid, crunchy bearings, etc. Good thing he only wants the frameset 'cause he'd be disappointed in the rest of the parts.

I found this 80s Peugeot ladie's MTB for $40 and built her something to ride on the trails with. She wanted drop bars so I probably spent way more on this than I should have but it's the first big bike project I've ever done so it was a fun learning experience for me. Thoroughly cleaned everything, changed the saddle, pedals, freewheel (from 6 to 7spd), stem, bars, brakes/shifters, cables, housing, tires, repacked the rear bearings (mostly because i had to take the axle apart to adjust for spacing). Kinda taught myself most of this on the fly as I was doing it so I'm sure a lot of it's not perfect but seems to ride nice so far. Here's the before and after.

My Paramount turns 50 this summer so I’ve been getting it ready for some long celebratory rides. I fixed up an NR derailleur with some Soma long cages, put on a new wheel set with Campy high flange hubs, changed bar tape and cables and even tightened the screw on the B17 for the first time ever🙀! It is running as smooth as ever doesn’t look too bad for an old work horse.

Picked up these two 1989 Specializeds: Rockhopper Comp, Stumpjumper Team. Sun faded and neglected. But really cheap. As usual dealing with stuck seatposts. Going with liquids first before putting it in a vise.

I kept having issues with the 105 caliper on my Krono. It keep leaning to one side to the point where I have to completely open it up with the release to ride it without rubbing. I noticed it was missing a small piece on the spring. I dont know if that really was the cause but I had to sculpt one from a piece of hard plastic. Surprisingly it stayed centered for the whole ride this past Sunday.
