I've been into mountain biking this winter/spring and so've been driving out to recreational areas (in the US you may call them BLM's) and doing overnight hub and spoke rides.

That is a tough one. The Plains of the U.S. and the Canadian Prairies are similar in some ways and unique in others. The "skyscapes" of Saskatchewan are hard to beat; and the rock formations of NW Nebraska are beautiful. IMO it's a tie, they are both winners Contrary to what a lot of people think, the prairies and the plains were scenic and interesting. Sometimes the winds were a little challenging, but it was worth it.

I would give the US the win for better scenery (for the most part). It seems the further south one travels the less trees there are and consequently more of the landscape can be seen.

Aren't those kinds of days fun, where the grass is laying half flat over to the side and the forward speed's cut in half (or worse)?

Beautiful spot, though. Have spent the better part of 40yrs seeking out such places ... running, via bike and via car. Still great, even if the wind's howling.

Fortunately, I only had to go directly into the wind for maybe 10 miles. Before I made a left I had what actually a fairly dangerous crosswind for some of the day. Had my sleeping bag on my front rack platform to make room for the day’s food. Had to put it back in a rear pannier to have better control of the front end.

Took the photo on MT 2 heading to Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park somewhat near Caldwell. Started the day on U.S. 287 out of Ennis.

The real bummer was getting to the campground after all that effort only to learn that the actual caverns are a 3 mile climb from the campground with grades of 9%, and there is no shuttle. Passed on that. Slept in the grass most of the afternoon after watching a guy have a devil of a time trying to pitch his tent. I thought he was going to lose it. Waited until the wind died down some to pitch mine. Fortunately, there is a group picnic shelter that allowed me to cook dinner without burning a lot of fuel.

Actually, it's the adjustment effects from Photos on my iMac. Apple got a little crazy with Photos on its later OSs.

Indyfabz, Your picture and posts about wind reminded me of a similar one.

I always though "din" meant a loud, unpleasant, and prolonged noise (on-line dictionary). I wonder how they measured that, until I found it it meant "your speed" in Danish.

yup, grew up hearing the word "din" all the time, British grandparents and watching British tv shows.

oh, and in French, "fart" means wax, as in ski wax, so its always a giggle to see the sign for an outbuilding or a room at a cross country ski center of "salle de fartage" , or the farting room.

Please don't pass gas outside, do it in this enclosed room. Thankyou, the management.

ya I know, seeing the image I just had a flashback of using those filters. In black and white, we used yellow and red filters to do the same, darken the grey of a blue sky, think Ansel Adams et co.
