The most sought after..? The mythical redline Looptail c. 1975... There were supposed to have been 3 made or something like that, only one known to exist. If one were to pop up on the bay... wouldn't surprise me to see it hit 5 figure$.

Sought after vintage BMX bikes come in a number of flavors and tiers, depending upon desirability at the time, what pro riders were riding, light weight or high-tech features. Circa 1981-1982:
SE PK Ripper
SE Quadangle (heavy; watch for hernias)
SE Floval Flyer
Thruster Tri-Power
Thruster Vanishing Point
Thruster Tim Judge Replica
Schwinn The Sting (actual Sting bikes had double-butted CrMo tubing. Such was not the case for the King Sting, Sting Competition or Mini-Sting)
Patterson (any of the models)
Roger DeCosta (any)
Kuwahara KE-1; KZ-1
Cinelli CMX.1 and MX.1
Mongoose Supergoose
DG Racer
GT Pro
Gary Littlejohn (especially the tandems and the pit bikes)
Hutch Pro / XL-24
JMC Racing Short/Long Standard
JMC Racing Black Shadow
Race, Inc. RA-7 / RA-8 / RM-1 / RM-2
Robinson Expert & Pro
Torker MX / Eddy King / L.P. Long / Pro / 26

VDC first came into the picture at the peak of the track BMX craze. They were highly active during the transition to freestyle/street/park. The company still makes framesets in the USA, which counts for something in an age when bikes with the once-coveted marks "Schwinn", "GT", "Mongoose" and "Diamond Back" are generally mass-produced (badly) in China.
My personal opinion (given what I know of Vernon Dixon and the history of his company) is that the Gorila is highly collectible, though not to the ridiculous degree that SE Racing and Kuwahara bikes currently are. They don't need to be babied. I'd get one if I were into collecting BMX bikes, particularly if the price was right.

People also often forget that Voris Dixion was somehow involved with Free Agent though he never personally made them. They were awesome bikes in the 80's to.

MCS, DG and Cook Brothers. All are kinda hard to find. I raced a CYC Stormer and then through a few others like an R & R. But the Cook Brothers was my favorite, I bought it used from a guy for a $125.00 in 1981 dollars. I gave it to my brother in 83 when I went into the military, raced right up boot camp. Wasn't really all that good, but I had a lot of fun. If I found one, I might resto it along with a couple other projects, I saw a Cook Bros on ebay for about 4K a while ago. Too rich for me.
The Esser's were well known races for MCS and Trailmate in the south, saw them race a bunch along with Tim Judge - they had all the latest stuff, I wonder what they have still laying around.

Just joined, so learning how to do this whole thing. I have a 1980 Supergoose. I’m the original owner and built it from the frame up. To answer the question of how much are they now, I looked up on EBay and saw a frame and fork go for I believe $400. Mine has redline forks and V bars, mini Pro Neck, 1st generation tuff wheels II, DiaCompe MX1000 rear brakes, snowflake sprocket and chrome 1piece cranks. It was always kept out of the elements and ridden all over. I’ve ridden it in Yosemite, Zion and around the Grand Canyon. Everywhere I go with it, I get looks and comments. It’s a great survivor. It’s been as much as a part of me as I have been to it. Love seeing and hearing about all these old BMX bikes. It was a great time to be a kid. Sorry can’t post pics yet. Tried but not allowed as of yet till I’m more involved. Guess I need something like 10 posts. Well this one is number 2. Feel free to respond.

Are Hutch Prostars still considered interesting? I had a pretty cool thread on BMXMuseum when I broke out pics of me in 83 (?) when I got it and pics of me with it from a few years ago. Kept it and still have it. Thought that one was pretty collectable. More so than the Schwinn SX500 Mag Scrambler with yellow mag wheels that I still have too (I remember getting that in the late 70's).

In the 80s the Italians took BMX racing seriously , so there were Campagnplo components Ambrosio rims and sew up tires from Clement.
and handmade steel frames ..
These you'd call Pump Track bike races.. the type of BMX races that held Motos for Medals in the last 2 Olympics..
Not half pipe Red Bull X games stunt bikes...
