Tuscany bike tour in May
I have always wanted to travel to Italy, and an absolute bucket-list item for me would be riding an Italian road bike through Tuscany. Airfare is secured now and I find at least a couple tour groups with Pinarrelo, Bianchi, DeRosa, and what look like some great rides. They do require two persons to run a tour and so far it is only me for May 1st or 2nd ... so join me! A Spring time ride through cypress lined hills in Italy, and they generally also mix in some site-seeing of historic villages, and food and maybe wine of the area.
The details:
Rides below are from two different companies. I have not ridden with them previously, but both groups seem well rated and established. They leave from in or near Florence, and each ride is most of a day.
I Bike Tuscany Chianti Classico Road Cycling 160 Euro
>> I have been in communication with this operator, and he is very responsive. LA based.
TUSCANY BICYCLE S.r.l. Chianti villages North 210 Euro
TUSCANY BICYCLE S.r.l. Chianti villages West 195 Euro
TUSCANY BICYCLE S.r.l. Tuscany Gravel 145 Euro
Bonus:
For the enthusiast of vintage bikes, I found a shop in Florence that restores and sells old steel!

Start your hill training quickly, there is no such thing as flat in Tuscany unless you are in the Po valley or on the west coast.

Good advice, thanks. I could imagine some training would be time very well spent. Of course the area looks pretty hilly, and one of the ride descriptions alluded to a 15% grade for a kilometer. Maybe that is the heaviest it gets, but no doubt many smaller climbs would still add up to a big effort.

I've ridden in that area. Lots of climbing and spectacular scenery. Great food and wine everywhere too.

There are steep pitches in Tuscany, and because midevil people couldn’t get along with each other every town is on top of a hill with a wall. So every ride to lunch and then to the hotel for the evening will be uphill. That said we’re talking short albeit steep climbs, nothing like the Alps for example.
