I had considered a hybrid for gravel, that bike had issues, and I lost interest in it's weirdness (2002 Marin San Rafael). I may still mess with that bike when other bikes are done.

Leaning back to my 2010 Performance Access XCL 9r that was a gift to me a few years ago. He built it as a Monster Cross. Drop bar 29er with Rockshox Dart3 fork. I honestly don't ride it in a manner for the fork to be a huge benefit. So ot is just a lot of extra weight. Looking for fork ideas, disc brake, 700/29" wheel and clearance for 700x54 tires.

Am I looking for a suspension corrected fork? Or something else? I'd prefer standard 100mm spacing to avoid changing wheels, as I have 2 sets. One with 700x54, the other with 700x45...

The stem riser was removed some time ago, it was an experiment for relieving mild sacroiliac pain, that is no longer an issue. (Old guys need to stretch more, it seems!)

I'm at the point of needing to tear the beast down for maintenance and the fork needs new seals as it is. Needs new brake cables and other overdue stuff. Giving a ton of thought to a 1x10 swap, as I rarely use the big chaining anyway. Just a bit of ruminating before deciding what I need next.

- Is that a straight steerer? That's important since the trend is for forks to be tapered.
- What is the crown to axle length? That's important since it's a measurement you want to replicate.
- What is the fork offset? Thats important since it will affect how the bike feels/steers.
- Are your wheelsets QR? The bike looks to be that, but you dont mention and its critical since many/most forks have moved to thru axle.

From here, it looks like you will need a 1 1/8 straight steerer, with 425-475mm of a-c height, and quick release.

It is old style standard QR axles. I believe it to be a straight steerer tube, not tapered. I haven't taken those measurements yet. I do know the bike was built from a bare frame, frame was from Performance Bike and the rest was what my friend had on hand. I will look at the Evay offerings, thanks. Just trying to avoid a new bike cost. But that may still be the better step forward.

If it's a 44mm head tube the bottom headset can be EC44/40, tho it adds about 10mm of axle to crown. This is how Surly does a lot of their bikes
