I’ve been trying out wax since last autumn. Found a flat and shallow can, took the remainder of some nearly used up thick candles. Melted those and dunked the chain in. Excellent staying power in wet conditions, has lasted about 250-300 miles during winter riding. Last time I had to top up the can with some more wax, which I believe wasn’t as good as the 1st one. The 2nd one was very white, and I suspect that came from added particles.

However, it's honestly more important to just keep the dang thing clean. You could use the best lubricant in the world and it wouldn't mean anything if you weren't using it enough, or using it incorrectly. When I first started riding I would drench my chain in oil and do a very poor job removing the excess. I still drench it, but I wipe it down VERY well with a cloth dabbed in Simple Orange degreaser after. Made all the difference.
I'm sure any product offered at your local bike shop would be just fine. Once you start chasing watts, that's when it becomes important, most cyclists would never know the difference.

I use White Lightning Easy Lube. I live in Tucson, so a wax based lube works well here, and it's supposed to be self cleaning. While self cleaning lube isn't important on my roadie, I clean the chain every 100 miles or so, I tend to pay a little less attention to my mtn bike. Hopefully it actually does what it claims to do, to any degree.

I have been using Pedro's Ice Wax. No opinion on it. We haven't had much rain as of the last couple of months. I had previously been using a couple different brands of dry lube, as I have always been afraid to use a wet lube. The dry alone seems to attract the slightest bit of grime regardless of weather.
The coconut oil thing never caught on with me like it did my wife. I sautee in olive oil, serious frying requires cast iron and crisco. If you strain it you can also lubricate bicycle chains with it.

I can't raise sheep within the city limits...
Anywho, I use two different lubes, one for the weekend bike and other for the commuter and touring bike. On the weekend bike I use Rock N Roll Absolute Dry, this stuff is better than I thought it would be, for one it lasts a long time, and for two it holds up to rain which I didn't think it would at all. On the commuter and touring bike I use Rock N Roll Gold. Someday I'm going to try NSF which from everything I've read it's the best, I see about that. But so far the Rock N Roll stuff seems to be the best I've used, neither are sticky, the Dry keeps the chain a bit cleaner longer, the Gold held up excellently while I was camping and it rained for about 14 hours constantly, then while riding in about a 2 hour downpour, and another hour of regular rain, this was all on the same trip.
