Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

They are "special edition" wheels which seems to be Performance code for "not really slx wheels". Doesn't mean they are bad but they are not "real" slx. I checked into them before when I saw their price.

Pretty lame trick, if you ask me. I discovered this last summer when I was upgrading wheels. No ceramic bearings for the SLX at Performance!!

They are simply the 2008 model with the same rim and spokes but don't have the newer lighter hub with hybrid ceramic bearings.

Yeah, but I thought everyone knew ceramic bearings were a gimmick.

The guy at my local Performance couldn't confirm that anything was the same, spokes, rim or even that they are handmade. Of course, it may just be that he didn't know jack but not a confidence builder for sure. As I said, they could be great wheels, but to call them SLX seems deceiving. If they are a 2008 model then call them "2008 EA90 SLX".

True, these do not have the ceramic bearings but I bought them. They are still a fantastic, handmade wheel set and at this price, I felt like I stole them.

They roll on and on and on.. I am very pleased with them! Oh, and if you HAD to have them, you can always get ceramic bearings. I have no plan on doing that.

I order new tires from Performance on 4-3 and just found out the tires on back order and won't come until May.

I asked why the site did not show it on back order and they said the web site is not real time.

I canceled the order and ordered them from Amazon and they already shipped them.
I find that every time I order from Performance it is a hassle, with delays related to them checking my credit card because of the dollar amount.

The whole purpose of my order was because I needed tires and I added items to get to the $150 level for "free shipping"
I called to complain and they could care less. I canceled the order and it will be a long time before I buy from Performance again.

Not that it matters, but the nipples are brass and not aluminum like the real SLX's. I honestly feel the only thing that are the same is the rim and maybe the spokes.
