Arctic Cat took a stab at bicycles 1972-73

Someone tossed this Arctic Cat frame out and I picked it up from next to the trash can. My infatuation with others peoples junk maybe out of control.
Arctic Cat took a stab at the bicycle market it ends up in 72' & 73'
The Boss Cat Legacy

This is what was laying out there waiting for trash pick up.

The frame & fork are straight, interesting 40-52 steel crank headset & bottom bracket are there & turn ok.
Does someone want this frame? I would consider it a rarity. If someone wants it its yours. Come get it.

Didn't Stella have something to do with this brand?

Looks very Stella-like to me.

Sorry, it was a piece of crappy BSOctober, back then, and it's now an old beat up BSO not worth it's weight in scrap iron.

Pics don't show, but the Arctic Cat bikes were made by Stella in 1972/1973/1974? Nearly all of them were low end, similar to the Peugeot UO-8, or other lesser bike models.

But, there were a few Arctic Cat versions of nicer Stella models, which had Columbus tubing, Prugnat lugs, Campagnolo dropouts, derailleurs & other bits, although still bore the same Arctic Cat paint/decal scheme as the lower priced models.

I only know this as I recently acquired a nice one, stripped to bare metal, from member @ mtmann and have done a bit of research. Don

Probably right up there with John Deere bikes in quality. The one with the 70's Thief River Falls bike license is a nice touch though being it's the headquarters of Artic Cat.

Probably true of most sold, but like I said, some were nicer underneath that AC paint and decals. Pics of the one I have for a Winter project:

Prugnat lugs, Campagnolo dropouts, Wrap Around Seat Stays. This one is similar to the Stella SX-73, which was advertised at 24 1/2 pounds. The Arctic Cat version had Campagnolo NR derailleurs and a Nervar crank, while the SX-73 had the Huret Challenger D.R. and a Stronglight 49 crank. Don

It's a fact this is a low end POS just interesting back ground being a highly recognized brand in Minnesota.
If nothing else it is a lost cause and will be able to use the tires tubes nuts & bolts & set the frame & wheel parts out for the garbage man or scrappers.
I'll get to mix up a few french threaded screws & things into the screw bucket. I don't even know the differences in French compared to Whitworth.
I my have just left it if it didn't have a good cottered steel crank & BB & the tires/wheels.

It dose look like Stella put out some very desirable bikes in the day.

It's interesting that the advertisement illustrations depict bicycles with single piece, Ashtabula style cranksets. These cranksets would be totally foreign to French manufacturer like Stella, suggesting that Arctic cat had considered an American manufacturer or used stock illustrations.

I can't see the pics of the OP's bike. That one with the Thief River license is very cool though.

I have seen a low end and a higher end Artic Cat.

Campy forged dropouts.

Baiku: The Arctic Stella

Jeep had bicycles, I assume for promotion. Some were low end, some middle, and some that were pretty nice.

I'd enjoy having a Arctic Cat bike hanging on the shop wall next to the sleds of the same brand.
