How many here are riding vintage steel and/or rigid MTBs?

I do have to say though, at 50, a full suspension would be nice..

I tried to PM, but I do not have enough posts on this forum yet to be able to. If you are ever interested in selling the Team off road, please let me know.

I don't ride one now, but I found one from my cousin in my grandparent's garage. Early nineties Hardrock specialized. I'll probably turn it into a hybrid bike good for both commuting and riding in the hills (most of them are protected, so it's well packed dust roads).

I pulled my Bridgestone MB-Zip out of the basement, put on knobbies, and took it on single track for the first time in almost 20 years. Fun!

I saw a ross signature mt hood for sale
xl size
for 60 bucks
this is a steel rigid frame with exage 400 components I think
my friend had one in the 90s
and he rode it around new Zealand
i don't know if it was a short lived project by ross
but these bikes are very different from most of the cheapies i have seen

I was riding this '87 Diamondback Apex for awhile, it was an awesome bike and I probably put 2000-3000 miles on it as a commuter and I did some trail riding on it as well. I finally admitted it was too small so I sold the frame about 6 months ago. I'd really like to find another one with a 20" frame.
I just picked up two vintage mountain bikes this past week, the first one is way too small, the '84 Stumpy has a 17" frame and 24" wheels. I'm not sure why I bought it, other than it was cheap and really cool. The '85 Schwinn High Sierra is too big for me as a trail bike but it will make a great commuter, set up with a rack, road slicks and panniers. Both of these bikes are in the process of being cleaned up/overhauled.
I have a rigid '93 Univega Rover that has been my commuter the past year or so and I've just recently set it up for trail riding and am having a blast with it. The 21" frame fits me really well and many of the Deore components that came off of the above DB Apex have now gone to the Univega, I don't have a picture of it available at the moment but will post one later.

Picked up this 92-93 Rockhopper frameset to build up as a single-speed. It came with canti's but I hate messing with canti's so I'm waiting for payday so I can buy some V-brakes to put on it. It's a little on the small side but I bought it to bomb around the greenbelt in our subdivision so smaller may be better in terms of agility.

Here is my '93 Bridgestone Mb-3 that I picked up from ebay for $250.00! I have 2 other bikes that I enjoy (a singlespeed and a roadbike) but have been missing riding some trails. Since I live in Nyc and have 2 bikes already, I didnt want to spend too much so I decided to seek out a 90's steel mountain bike that I can have fun riding trails and commute with. Being a lugged frame and having an upgraded rock shox mag fork was the cherry on top! I changed all the cables and housing since they were frayed. The bottom right cable stop was broken so that was fixed with a cable stop clamp and installed new chain/brakes. It has the original shimano deore dx groupset which shifts like butter- seriously, I think it shifts better than my '03 klein equipped with all dura ace besides the crank (ultegra). Took her out on the trails today and had loads of fun. Its light, nimble and a pure joy to ride!

These days I ride vintage mtb's as All Rounders but I'm always ready to bomb down a dirt trail if one beckons. Any feedback on how different vintage steel types feel?
Just picked up a '90 KHS Montana Pro with Ritchey Logic tubing I'm anxious to build and ride. The frame feels really lite.

My son left me with an old GT Rebound in the storage shed....it had a bent fork, a broken right side shifter, and the gear cluster was gone. Being an old guy on a fixed income, I decided to see what I could do with it...... got some used forks that fit, bought a changer off'n Amazon, got a cluster, new chain, and ....voila! Not a bad little ride, sweet, as a matter of fact, everything works and since I'm 72, I ain't planning on riding down the North Face of The Eiger with it...... it will do, it will do!
(only hitch: got me an eight speed changer and an eight speed cluster, but only seven fit on! But, seems to work just find, and I wear the gear that didn't fit on my keychain!)

I just picked up an '88 (or at least that's what year I believe it is) Jamis Diablo to be my winter commuter, and I'm loving it. The ride's incredibly smooth compared to the shorter wheelbase single speed bikes I've been riding the past few years, although the slower steering is taking some getting used to. And it's kind of nice to have something I can take offroad now if the urge strikes.

Almost the best $15 I ever spent - this is my winter bike: an antique steel Trek 830 with thumbies.
Triple-butter Tange Cro-Mo tubing.
The multitude of reflectors may inhibit the flash but I like to be seen and it gets dark so very early.

Just picked up a used but not abused Trek 800. Nothing fancy, but all the parts are present and working. Just a fun little bike to tinker with. Might fix it up and repaint of for my daughter to take to college with her. Plenty good to get her around campus and I won't cry if she forgets to lock it and it comes up missing.....

This is a late 80's Specialized Stumpjumper that I had powder-coated and converted into a heavy-duty bad-weather commuter. I was living in China for a couple of years and this bike was a perfect back-street rambler in Beijing. It also visited Tiananmen Square a number of times.
My bike in front of the Great Hall of the People (on Tiananmen Square).
In front of a bike-friendly cafe.
Big poster honoring the firefighters. (Those are hose nozzles they're holding, not guns).
Overpass near my house (this is the 2nd Ring Road near Ritan Park, for those of you who know Beijing)

Nothing fancy. Early 90s norco mountaineer. Built it for pulling my trailer and commuting around. Looking for a bigger frame this winter with vertical droputs. I plan on sticking with a vintage steel MtbMtb

1993 Diamond Back Axis TR, True Temper TT Lite tubing with curved "Snake Stays" seat stays. Immaculate condition, almost completely original, LX/XT, the Manitou 3 fork performs perfectly. Best handling bike I ever had, and it's been ridden all over. Bought it in Hawaii and it's seen trails in CA, NC, SC, NJ, PA, NM, El Paso, D/FW.
