Are cyclists being targeted by muggers in Contra Costa County?
In the last month I have heard from two different people that lone cyclists have been targeted in brutal attacks in Alamo, Concord, and Danville along bike paths. The cyclists were swarmed by a group of 5-6 people and are beaten and comprehensively robbed of everything.
Is this true? There is nothing I can find on-line about these supposed attacks and when I've called the police they won't confirm or deny it's happening. If true, should law enforcement be warning cyclists to avoid these paths?

Sounds like one of those white flight stories, 'gangs invading the white suburbs via Bart and the Caldecott Tunnel'.
I think we are in more danger from driver/smart phone users.

Years ago I remember cccorlew posted that he was attacked in Antioch. That was a terrible story.

SHOULD have reported it. Please note that BART refuses to release descriptions of assailants.

12 years ago I was stopped on the trail after curfew and was questioned and released by the parks police. They stated that there were muggings along the trail. When pressed for details the police were not forthcoming with any additional information. I started a thread about it but nobody had heard anything.

If you are concerned about it and want to investigate it further, try calling East Bay Regional Parks.

If these events happened it still might be hard to find a report. There was no newspaper covered my mugging, even though "Aging professor bike commuter mugged, beaten and held up at gunpoint on local trail" sounds like a headline to me. But nothing.
The City din't have it on their crime log either, and failed to forward the report to East Bay Regional Parks like they said they would.
With the downfall of local newspapers a lot falls through the cracks.
