Crescent 1972 (?)

From a "Pepita", only on small frames. The standard headbadge had stylized "C's" on each side, but they would not fit due to the lug 'horns" interfering.

Matsuri

Assuming '70s Japanese "boom" brand.
Sorry for duplicate photo, I don't know how to remove. Doesn't look any clearer right side up anyways.

Tyler

'70s (?) Tyler from Poland. Sorry again! Horrible photo when viewed here, I am getting a real camera soon as I haven't been able to find my other one and have been using the phone which speaks for itself regarding quality and resolution. I have a few odd Netherland badges from a few decades ago that I'll get on this thread after I get a camera.

I love those old badges but I guess a decal logo is the same thing these days.

I wonder if it's the expense of producing the badge or the negligible weight that prevents more companies from making them?

This one is over 4" long, maybe weight could be an issue in some cases. I don't know year or country of origin. I have a late '90s Fondriest and a 2011 Gios "Compact Pro"; both still using actual badges on higher end frames. I always liked the Chesinis with their logo etched into the head tube; no doubt as to maker and also some models ("Gran Premio"). Considering what better companies are charging for their products, I don't think cost would be an issue; a nice badge might actually help sell a couple more frames and cover the overhead required to make and install a badge vice a decal. If I was a maker/seller, of frames/components, I would personally provide the badge/decal/engraving as an option on any model as long as it didn't negatively compromise durability and/or performance. Nothing different than getting a custom paint job. I would pay extra to have a real badges as opposed to a decal, and that includes all decals throughout the entire frame. Put badges on all the tubes!

My first real job (real = W2 form) was at a store called Kiddee City in Conshohocken PA in 1977. They sold a variety of bicycles and I was the bicycle assembler. Huffy's were the good brand, vastly superior to the rest. The steel used in Tylers was really soft. When tightening axle nuts there was a very fine line between too loose and striping the threads. And a returned Tyler is the only time I've seen a steel crank arm break into two parts. No bending at all, just a clean break.n

A few more I forgot I had pics of.

I always found the heron's-eye rivet clever:

Alas, this one's damaged. Sometimes a get a small notion to touch it up.

Kind of a ho-hum bike (early '80s Wind), but a formidable head badge (cool factor almost up there with the Batavuses):

Agree on the rivet, sometimes think about dotting it for a pupil with a sharpie.

Some interesting head badges there. Is this the same Windsor that would end up in Mexico? What is their history? The badge has the Irish harp so I'm guessing this is pre-1921 (not sure what's in the top right -- should be a unicorn?).

regarding the Windsor marque -

there are at least three unrelated ones:

France

Britain

Mexico

possible there may be others...

Gentil et Cie was an entity which gobbled up a number of independent marques during the early decades of the last century

Well that's strange. Not as strange as a headbadge with an English name, British symbols, and French provenance, but strange.

Right now I've only got two headbadges proper, but they're both in regular use.

The best known Windsor bicycle is the Windsor Profesional, made in Mexico.

In 1972 Eddy Merckx set the hour record on a Colnago badged as a "Windsor".

In case the link does notwork

You can see the Windsor head badge in both links.
