'86 TREK 400 Elance,56cm,Reynolds 531,Mavic-105 Wheels,Free Extras

Is this 86' Trek 400 Elance worth the asking price. I've been searching craigslist for the past week or so for a fitting bike and want to come to a decision soon. $270 seems a little high for me, but the seller does list a lot of upgrades he has made so I could be wrong. I don't really care about any of the extras the seller lists. Do you think I could haggle a little bit and offer a lower price?

Considering the upgraded wheelset and drivetrain and it's ready to ride, the bike is actually belows FMV IMHO, and should go for $300. Make an offer in person at $250 with the cash in your hand...........

Good luck!

I agree with oddjob...it is below market value, particularly in your market...at that price. Of the extras, let him keep the water bottles!!!

1 block from my house. Pretty sure it's a guy who flips and usually has a couple of bikes for sale in his yard.

Agree with OJ the deuce, FMV-ish for Chicago., but offer $250. Not seeing "near mint" condition on this - I see lots of wear and rust on the eyelets of the wheels. I sold one that was much nicer for $275 on ebay a few years back. "Extras" are basically junk.

If that was in Raleigh, I'd be all over that. IMHO it's priced to sell.

+1 not "near mint." I'd consider it good condition. Nice bike and the wheelset is a good upgrade but this was clearly a parts-bin build. Bontrager crank, WTF? Suicide brake levers, WTF? Shimano Light Action derailers, ehhh.

Considering all this I still think it's a good price for the Chicago market and a good buy. Components you decide you don't like can be easily swapped out over time.
