Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Garage clicker stopped working this morning. Currently locked out of the house til the family wakes up. Nice breeze this morning. No coffee.

One of the lawns is full of obstacles. Really slows things down.

Bummer. This is why you hide a house key someplace outside.

I just bring my keys with me. Wish I had a better place to put them besides my jersey pocket, though.

I also carry my wallet, although a copy of my ID and health insurance card in the saddle bag would probably be sufficient.

It was a lil' dark when I set out on the morning ride. I'm chalking up 20% of it to sunrise getting later and the other 80% to cloud cover - it's just too depressing to get behind Vol's heralding of autumn, otherwise.

Also, I spent most of the ride wondering if my TICKR was broken or if my ticker was broken. It was an easy ride, as a recovery ride should be, but my HR seemed to be sitting too low for a given power, 'specially in the first half of the ride. I ramped up and down a little, watching HR, and it was responsive... just several beats lower than what I'd expect.

I have a lock box on my railing for the backup cat sitter, but it will come in handy if I ever leave my keys at the office. I have done that more than once in the past. Walk to work in shorts and change in my office. Put the keys on my desk and they end up getting covered with papers. Leave for the day, stop at happy hour and then arrive home to find myself keyless. Talk about something that really, really sucks. It would suck even more now that I am working in NJ. Before I got the box a bartender friend of mine had a copy of my key.

My son has a chunky Star Wars house key that I'll grab on early morning rides; it's big enough that it's easy to locate in my pocket but it doesn't have the bulk of my key set. I'd rather let the hidden key stay hidden until I actually need it - it's not terribly convenient for daily use.

In terms of wallet, I usually carry ID, insurance card, one credit card and a sandwich punch card just in case I want to hit up my favorite shop when I'm done.

wife and off spring we’re asleep. You don’t wake either if you want to live another day.

I usually ride a lot longer. My body just told me that I needed a break, and I decided to listen. Usually when I get back they are awake, but since so got done about two hours earlier they were not awake yet.

Re: sore legs mentioned on Strava - an easy ride like today is definitely recommended, but I'd also look in to a foam roller. My post-ride stretch and roller routine helps me a lot. Be prepared for the roller to be all kinds of pain and discomfort, but it will get better.

Oh, and sleep - sleep helps.

Otherwise, welcome to getting older.

I carry this in my center pocket. Holds my regular wallet, phone, and keys.

I will be surprised if I hit 3k this year.

I've still ridden much more than last year, looks like I only hit 1800 in 2019 and I'm a couple hundred shy of that right now.

Trending upwards is always nice, though!

My "goal" for the last handful of years has been 4k, and the last 6 weeks or so has put me pretty far ahead of that pace. The 4k hasn't really been something that I've actively worked towards (I was surprised to see that I'd only done 3k in 2018), but it's been reasonable given my usual 120-140 mi/week and slow start/early end of the road riding season in MN.
