I don't really mind dingy white tape though, especially if it's cotton. Makes a bike feel well-used and comfortable.

It has it's own pros and cons.
I still think I'll take an Illinois winter over a Texas summer.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a weather app on your phone?
The latest Wunderground app update is terrible.
Very interested in good radar as well as push notifications for severe alerts.

The hard part would literally be convincing her that it's ok to retire ever, as a concept.

Agree the update sucks, but the models and secret sauce they use are distinctly superior to virtually all of what's out there, most of which seems to repackage GFS and NAM info. The only other free app I've seen with ECMWF for the US is Windy, which is great if you're into meteorology and the big picture, but isn't as good for ultra short-term and hi res info.

Windy is a fun tool. I've got a private pilot ticket so I've been exposed to basic meteorology and its fun to look at the large scale air movements around the world. But I don't really fly anymore so anything outside of local weather is more of a curiosity than anything. Even then, the airplanes I flew were so slow that you didn't need to look too far ahead anyways
Looks like RadarUS is iOS only. Sad!

Gotcha. I frequent the Wunderground site, not only for forecasts but I also very much enjoy their blogs and news stories. Always found their website a little clunky and pictures don't always load, but the content is good.

Vain, But Lacking Talent
On the subject of Manhattan, I've actually been there quite a few times over the past year and a half or so for work related stuff. I really enjoy when I do go there, but can't imagine actually living there. To enjoy the same comforts there that I do in North Texas where living is pretty darn cheap (We bought our 4 bedroom house 4 years ago for 155K), I would have to make something like 4 times what I make now. And as much as I enjoy (as in actually enjoy, not being sarcastic) the subway, I do enjoy driving a car on open roads.
The wife and I will take a long weekend there sometime in the near future. I've got quite a few favorite places I want to take her to and she's never been there.

In fake miles news, I did a longer Zwift route last night with lots of climbing and it mostly sucked. I wanted to do another route of similar length with not as much, but still a good bit of elevation, but I didn't realize it was a level 12 and up route. I'm nearly there. Did the longer route for the bonus XP points and suffered immensely.

And I'm the opposite - let me wear what I want and 100°F is fine. Put me in 30°F, or 55°F and cold humidity, and it sucks the soul straight out of me Raynaud's doesn't help.

I have to ask, what do you enjoy about the subway? I haven't ridden it in Manhattan, but I rode it a bunch in HK and Rome, and both were miserable. HK's particularly is supposed to be better than the one in Manhattan, so I'm wondering what's nice about it. Do you just mean that it's easier in the city than dealing with a car and parking?

Good question. I definitely did not mean the subway itself was an absolute pleasure and joy to be on, just that the convenience of it was amazing. I have been to places or work where I needed to get a rental car and one day alone is like 100+ bucks and I might put barely any miles on the car, but there just wasn't any other option. In NYC I can land at JFK, get on the airtrain, load up a metro card for about 25 bucks and get anywhere I need/want to for a few days.
Not having to worry about a car is a pleasure not often afforded to us that don't live in metro areas serviced by reliable and accessible public transportation.
I wouldn't say driving a car is dumb, but being required to own a car in order to participate in society really is.
