OK just to let you know I am very new to bikes, and really don't know much at all. I don't own a bike right now, but I am looking to pick one up. Looking for a road bike. I know why people would choose to ride multi gear bikes, and I know how they feel to ride and shift.
My questions are... what is a fixed gear bike like? I have never been on one. Why would you want one?
I assume they take a little more leg strength since you are fixed?
Do some of them not have... traditional brakes? (To me this is the brakes on handle bars)
Is the price difference between fixed and multi generally because you don't have the extra parts multi gear bikes do?
Are there any benefits, major or minor, to riding a fixed gear? In your own opinion of course. No scientific studies needed.
Any insight on the fixed vs multi would be awesome.

A fixed gear is a bike with a fixed cog and the chain wraps around a crank that goes round forever like on a child's trike.
Its the oldest and purest form of singlespeed riding... you cannot ever coast on it and to ride fixed gear, you have to learn your rhythm for varying conditions.
The last Sheldon Brown encouraged FG riding for fun, fitness and 'fficiency! Remember those three Fs and you'll be all set!
