However my winter tights and wind/rain proof pants work quite nicely too into -F degree weather.

I voted "yep, no problem" only because I wear tights that my wife says look like panty hose without the feet. She said I should just wear panty hose just last night in fact! But no I don't actually wear them, but in a pinch It wouldn't bother me. Might have trouble finding "amazon" size though.

Nah - I don't even wear those torture garments with skirts!! I do wear tights though - they are like panty hose without feet and are a LOT easier to get on than pantyhose!

What about seamed nylons with a garter belt option? Well, we got a lot of old school commuters here and I think that combination would go much better with classic look of the mustache handlebars.

Panty hose, as in what ladies wear? Do those keep you warm? Is that why ladies wear them? Or are you referring to long johns?

Yes, panty hose as in what the ladies wear. One reason ladies don't like wearing them in summer is they are hot. I've worn them before when I with was the 82nd Airborne. Night, cold weather and high altitude jumps do get cold and those Air Farce transport cargo bays usually don't have working heaters if they have them at all.

I've actually thrown my pantyhose back on over the weekend under my winter stuff if it's really cold out and I plan on going out to play in the snow for a couple of hours. Adds a little bit of extra insulation under my winter tights.

This is a solution looking for a problem. I'll wear cycling leg warmers to about -6C, then swap out to Gore-Tex fronted heavy lycra tights. Above +4C, I don't need the leg warmers. I honestly can't think of an instance where pantyhose would be more useful than leg warmers. I'm not against them per se, but the utility would be so limited...

I put on womens clothing, panty hose and a bra, it keeps me warm in winter, so I never have to thaw

I wore 'em in the service - lightweight warmth is a very good thing.
Still, they're really uncomfortable with my hairy legs. I go the silk longies route these days, not as irritating.

Never heard of this, though I have heard they prevent jellyfish stings.
I've been a cold-weather fan for years as an ice climber/mountaineer, backcountry and cross-country skier as well as a dedicated whitewater kayaker and must say I have plenty of good things for all purposes and no need for panty-hose. Maybe they'd be better than my Patagonia Capilene or my bike tights, but I don't think I'll worry about it

Lightweight silk long johns: sure.
Nothing beats a great pair of L'eggs: heck no.
Like climbhoser, I've got enough baselayer items from alpining and backcountry winter camping that I don't need to buy anything else. Most days, my MSI mid-weight polypros work just fine.

My tights are warm enough that I don't need a base layer underneath them, but they don't look much different than pantyhose to some people, I guess.

I get enough guff in the locker room at work for my circus like garb. No way in hell I'd consider pantyhose. In any case, base layers have come a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way and the idea is un-necessary.

Well, I've worn panty hose on stage in plays, so its not an issue of being unwilling to be seen in public with them on. But I never even considered them as bicycling wear. For winter I just wear long pants and perhaps knee wraps if it gets too cold.

extra bitter
I don't get it. Pantyhose aren't really designed for warmth, are they? There's little air space to trap heat. Same problem with tight tights -- they help a bit, but nowhere near as well as something loose fitting and/or piled/poofy. If you're racing and need the aerodynamics, that's one thing. On my commute, I'll take some thermals and loose wind pants any day.
And Marines wear (wore?) a polypro base layer. You airborne kids should check those out
