Vain, But Lacking Talent
Simple Green concentrate can hurt aluminum if you leave it sitting in Simple Green. If used for a simple cleaning and thoroughly rinsed, there is no issue with using it to clean your bike parts, etc. I think I read ages ago that it needed to not sit in it for more than 5 minutes or something like that.
The FAA is a little more strict, and with good reason. A product like that is necessary to get it approved for that kind of work. There is also a bike specific foaming spray made by Simple Green available at your local bike shop that is similarly formulated to not eat up aluminum.
EDIT: Here it is.

However, caution and common sense must be used: aluminum is a soft metal that easily corrodes with unprotected exposure to water. The aqueous-base and alkalinity of Simple Green All-Purpose Cleaner can accelerate the corrosion process. Therefore, contact times for unprotected or unpainted aluminum surfaces should be kept as brief as the job will allow - never for more than 10 minutes.

We didn't overthink this one at the shops I worked at - we simply told people to never use simple green for cleaning anything on your bike. It made certain rubber seals swell and was just nasty stuff in general. There were so many other better choices that didn't have the same problems as Simple Green.

I have been cleaning things of all types for 20 years and have never had any issues with Simple Green. The FAA version is strictly because they need certification for cleaning products not because they changed anything of significance.

I used a mixture of dilute simple green (about 4 oz to a gallon of hot water) with a squirt of Dawn dish soap for general bike cleaning for years, but now I'm using a Meguiar's car wash/wax product and it works just as well and might help protect the finishes. This new Simple Green product does look like it would be a good choice for bikes. I might have to give it a try, perhaps for something like on-bike drive train cleaning, or when a bike gets really grody.
