We’re driving to Florida and have been in rain the last 4 hours, currently in Kentucky. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen this much flooding. The Ohio River flooding was pretty impressive.

I was watching this thing on reenactors doing Columbus' voyage. It said the crews had to be trained how to operate the ships.

How long would it take you to get up to speed on sailing one of those rigs?

I guess another way of asking is, how scalable are the basics of sailing? Do square sails make much of a difference in movement?

Hmmm - haven't paid attention to whether or not the back side of the hand was tingly, too. No pain, though - just tingling. And it continues past the wrist - it used to feel like a taut string from upper back to fingers, though that has diminished. I didn't realize how tense those muscles were until the chiro started working on them.

See? Always an upside, you just have to search for it sometimes. I don't think I have much mouse action going on here, and I'm pretty sure you can make a 56 work... So, I have some bikes you can have should I succumb. I have to assume you'll be making your way to Boulder with the rest of the survivors, so once you get here, it's easily riding distance. The battery thing with the Di2 may be an issue, but I'll make sure they're all charged.

Modern rigs (and hull shapes) are incomparably easier to manage, far more powerful, and go upwind efficiently. The physics is the same, but the difference is much more than a matter of scale. It took huge skill and manpower to make those old ****boxes go anywhere.

That's the theory behind the business: Stock a relatively limited number of products, but make them good quality. The belief is that you shouldn't need a choice of 7 different brands of Dijon mustard or 20 different types of soup to have a quality shopping experience. They recently opened a new place on Arch Street, not that far from my office and close to the Reading Terminal. I can go at lunch. The other one in town is not on my route home and not in a direction I would go during lunch. it also gets insanely crowded, especially before a snow storm. One year I went a day before an impeding storm and there was a long line just to get into the damn store. No thanks.

So I'm out at the garden center with the wife and kids and I just saw the most hilariously inappropriate Virgin Mary-esque garden statue ever.

Seems to work quite well for them. Customers and employees are generally happy. There is a TJ 10 minutes away from us in Devon (just south of Valley Forge) and on the weekends it’s packed with main line yuppies.

Mrs datlas and I had a lunch date at a relatively new Lebanese restaurant. It was quite good.

I noticed this place and the sushi place we went to in Philly have a surcharge for credit card/discount for cash.

Is that the new normal??

indyfabz (or other train aficionados): whilst watching a train pass yesterday I got to noticing all the companies whose rail cars were included (NS, UP, CN, etc.). How does this work? Are the cars leased back and forth? Does someone keep track of each one?
