mirror with twist shifters
Does anyone have a mirror that works well with grip twist shifters? The mirrors I see attach to the end of the handlebars so they move when the shifter is used.

I've seen two varieties of mirror attachment, one clamps onto the end of the handlebars, you have to slide the grips along a bit for them to attach or you clamp them over the grips.
The other you either cut a hole in the end or remove a plug, and the mirror assembly slides into the end of the bar. There'll be a wedge and cage nut arrangement that then clamps to the inside of the bar.

+1 I think thats exactly what I use in summer. fits inside so no conflict at all.
In winter I'm running a 10$ k-mart crusier mirror that clamps on inboard of the shifter and brakes with a long rod to the actual mirror.
Inelegant and a PITA to keep adjusted but I find my winter gear interferes with the closer tolerance bar end mirror.

the inside of the handle bar does not rotate, bar end mirrors expand into the handle bar ..
I suspect your mechanic's Logic is weak & should go to a shop to buy the mirror & have them put it in..

For me, handlebar mirrors vibrate too much and give too limited view and I have to look down at my handlebars to see taking my eyes off the road.
I prefer a Take A Look eyeglass mounted mirror. With just a small turn of my head (10 - 15 deg.) I can go from looking at the blindspot to my left to looking down the road. and since it is mounted to my eyeglasses, vibration is much less. I have it mounted/bent so it is high and to the left so I still have a view to my left under it without really needing to tilt my head.

Since a good big mirror can save your life I use scooter mirrors mounted to my bars with "P" clips.
