2014 Spring Cycling Destination?
Hello and good day,
We are looking for a place, mid America, where we can drag a camper and our bikes. We would be intersted in doing daily rides of at least 50-100miles and we are up for elevation challenges.
One of us is from Ft Worth the other Chicago. We'd like to meet in the middle-ish to maybe going a bit east. Does anybody know of a bike friendly area that fits that criteria? For example, we've been to Arkansas and the riding was great but the motorists were generally quite hostile so we're not going back there.
We'd also be happy to sping entrance fees if you know of some groovy local fondo type ride.
Oh, we love to eat, so recommended resaurants are a big attractant.
Cool local bike shops are always nice to look around in too.
We will be going in late spring/early summer so we have plenty of time to come up with a plan.
After ten minutes of google I figured I'd ask you guys and see what happens.
Thanks in advance and have a great ride.

Colorado is good from late May on.
Here's a huge bike tour if you like big group activities. The route this year is, in my opinion, one of the best loops in all of Colorado. Really good scenery.

If you love to eat, don't buy the meal plans, eat in local restaurants.

Halfway puts you in the middle of Missouri. My friends from St Louis are less than enthusiastic about the rural population's attitude towards the lycra crowd. Tulsa is a good cycling town, but it's a lot closer to Fort Worth.

That tour of Colorado is mydream vacation, one day.
And the Missouri reference is exactly what I experienced in Arkansas. A woman driving a huge truck actually pulled over to yell at us, it was scary ignorant.

Go to Chattanooga TN. It's a cool little town but I'm not sure what the cycling scene is like there. You'll have your elevation challenges and lots of other sights to see. Good restaurnats, and southern hospitality too.

Natchez Trace? It's more driving for you and I'm not sure about the off-bike options, but I've ridden parts of it and the cycling is great.

Have I got a ride for you.
Every April in the sleepy little town of London, KY is the Redbud Ride: https://redbudride.com/
It goes anywhere from 25 to 100 miles, much of which is in the Daniel Boone Nat'l Foest. It's a tough ride. It's also well supported. The locals want to show off their community, so if anyone gave cyclists a hard time, they'd probably be lynched. I loved the ride. I did the 70 miler this year.
Go Ft. Wayne to Cinncinati, go due south on I75, and there you are.
I even have a video of it:
