Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Any experince with Natchez Trace?

Hi all,
I'm leaving this question here because road cycling is what we will be doing.
A friend and I are planning on going to the Natchez Trace and camping roughly in the middle (of the Tennessee portion) then spend about three days riding north, south and whatever else comes along.
Have any of you been there?
Anything a must do or must don't?

Any advice (about this topic) greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance

The Trace is a very scenic roadway; I've driven my car on it many times and have always wanted to tour it on my bicycle.

Bicycling - Natchez Trace Parkway (U.S. National Park Service)

Camping - Natchez Trace Parkway (U.S. National Park Service)

I suppose you've done the Katy Trail? I remember when real trains traveled it. Love the wine district!

I rode part of the Natchez Trace last spring. It's a beautiful ride with excellent scenery and decent shoulders. We arrived in the area during really bad weather with tornado watches ongoing. Instead of camping out, we hid out in a cheap motel. This was one of the weather warnings on tv.

After hiding out for 3 days, the rest of the trip was pretty good weather wise. I believe this was late spring, early summer of last year.

Good luck, you'll have a great time.
