Audi A3 2012 3 door sport - bike rack?? Help!
hi!
i recently changed car but am now worried as I can’t seem to find a bike rack to fit.
does anyone have this car with a rear bike rack fitted??
I really don’t want to get roof bars fitted.
please advise if you know of any rear mounted racks that could fit.
thanks

Have you considered a Seasucker? We have one and it’s actually really cool.

(I have a 2015 A3) A hitch mount on this one is tough (requires rear panel/bumper removal). Your best bet is a trunk-mount style (like the Yakima full Back https://www.yakima.com/fullback or https://www.rei.com/product/856188/t...ike-trunk-rack) ...or roof rails...

Most 'trunk mount' racks will fit on the back of a hatch like your A3. Shown is a Ford Focus, but it still mounts the same way.
Sometimes you can mount it so that you can open the hatch with the rack on (but no bikes) sometimes you can't. Depends on the rack and the car.
Go to a local bike shop, they'll be able to show you different models and should help get it fitted (basic) to your car.
2 Questions:
*Are you in the US or EU? EU has more rules about covering license plates / tail lights.
*What kind of bikes will you be carrying? Full-suspension MTB and step-thru 'ladies' frames may need adapters for basic type racks.

the major roof rack companies like Thule & Yakima ,
have a fit list of what adapters are needed for fitting onto virtually any car..
Non roof , check with dealers they will offer suggestions .. as those companies want a slice of that marker too..
I have used a mix of roof rack parts to fit a rack over the hatchback..
round crossbar Yakima, I could still open the hatchback.

Go to the Saris website. They have just a bout every car listed. You put in your car, they tell you which racks will fit on it, and whatever accessories you'll need to make it fit.

Worst case, you can have a trailer hitch installed under the bumper and use a hitch mounted rack.
Audi probably sells one. Several other aftermarket places probably sell for for 1/3 the cost. May require some drilling to install. May not.

Where are you from? I don't recall the US ever getting 3 door Audi A3's in 2012...only the 5 door. But I agree, The Saris Bones is awesome.

Besides, it's not like the rack is going to be custom fitted for the A3. These things have a huge amount of adjustability.
I 've used mine on several different cars, including wagons, MPV's and a Pontiac Trans/Am with an 8" tall Daytona spoiler.
You might need an extra set of (experienced) hands, and a big dose of common sense to get the thing adjusted the first time, but it's not nearly and difficult as you seem to think it is.
