Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Lynskey Ti Finish Options and Decal Options

Matte or Bright Brushed? White decals or etched?

I like the look of white decals over a satin finish, but also am maybe a little nervous that the matte would pick up scratches more easily and not be able to be fixed as easily as the brushed (add $300).

Also, I saw a few people mention the decals comes off easily over a short period of time. I like the look of the white decal, but if they'll peel off, thats no good! Etched would be set and forget, but add $250.

Can any Lynskey owners comment on the satin finish they have been turning out these days, and whether the upgrade to the brushed is recommended? How about the decals?

I've got a 2009 R330 with no issues at all with the decals after 19,340 miles. I have black outline decals on a brushed finish.

The only issue I've had is with the head tube badge. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT use any powerful citrus based cleaner or Simple Green type cleaner on the head tube badge or it will quickly tarnish and the paint will peal. (HEY Lynskey - A ti unpainted badge would be cool and way more durable.) I learned the hard way and I'm on my second head tube badge.

When I bought my Lynskey I thought I'd go cheap and get the matte finish, but changed my mind at the last second. The way it shines in the sun and looks - even when standing still, I'm very glad I got the brushed finish.

FWIW I got mine brushed with etched graphics and absolutely love it. Looks fab and I don't ever have to worry about the decals coming off.

bright brushed Ti looks better than matte - I have a matte frame and freely acknowledge its inferiority.

Agree that the brushed finish is well worth the upgrade. You can do it yourself with Scotchbrite pads, though. Either buy brushed or make it brushed yourself. And also be careful about the head tube badge.

Below is a pic of mine back in early 2010. It looks different now...Thomson black seat post, steel bottle cages, Edge fork, different stem. Decal is the same.
